MARILYN HUNT FAMILY
MARILYN HUNT CHAMBERS 14 December 1930 - 9 November 2008

This page is dedicated to the memory of Marilyn Hunt Chambers who passed away on 9 November 2008. Marilyn was a third cousin and dear friend that I got to know better in 2008. It was I that got her interested in the family which led to her delving into her family picture treasures that were in a huge trunk. That trunk set near her entrance door in case of a major disaster where it could be taken out of the house in an emergency. Oh the knowledge she had about her families; stories she had heard from her parents Mary Walker and Thomas Hunt. So it is on this page that I put my collection that I received from Marilyn. Kudos to Marilyn!

This picture is Will Leab son of Mary E Leab Williard while working out west. Will is the one standing

Will Leab born January 15, 1865 died January 18, 1944 at Buncombe Co., Asheville, North Carolina hospital and buried at Hales Chapel, Buffalo Ridge, Washington Co., Gray, Tennessee. Marilyn Hunt said Will Leab called her father his educator

The Tom and Mary Walker Hunt home in Asheville (Weaverville) North Carolina was in a location where family members could stop off when traveling to Tennessee. Mary was known to have bed and breakfast for friends long before Bed and Breakfast became so popular. Tom being a high school principal had many friends as well as lots of relatives who loved to gather around him. Bruce Walker Hunt 1st cousin was a high school principal in Walterboro, South Carolina and they had made many trips in the summer to various historical parks. I have their pictures below

A great picture of Bruce Walker Hunt and family visiting Tom and Mary Hunt in North Carolina ; Bruce's daughter Nell with daughter Gail and son-in-law James Ilderton

Bruce Walker Hunt and Zane Hunt son of Tom and Mary Walker Hunt visiting at the Samuel Houston monument. The woman to the right may be Viola Anderson Hunt wife of Bruce. Bruce was a cousin to Tom Hunt and both were school principals so it makes sense they would go to historical sites while on summer vacation

Zane Hunt age two and Bruce Walker Hunt visiting at Valley Forge (not certain but Marilyn had written Valley Forge on the back or it could be Gettysburg?

Grandma Delilah Keefauver Martin holding baby Zane on her lap ; Marilyn had written grandma and Zane but I am certain she meant Delilah and not Aunt Vert

A very interesting sheet about the Missionary Church in Leesburg and the names listed are a genealogy source

This picture is my treasure; It would have been made sometime between 1900-1910? Standing left to right: Abraham Keefauver brother to Delilah, Vertie, John Thomas,Jr., Mary, Delilah, Nellie, Fred, Lula, and unknown couple on the right?

This picture was marked Alverta Martin Walker by Marilyn but I am thinking it looks like maybe Delilah Keefauver Martin

Samuel Patton Martin or is it Samuel Patterson Martin? even Marilyn didn't know the answer to his middle name ; still not certain this is Samuel, Delilah and Alverta it certainly looks like them?

Another great picture of the Samuel Martin house in Jonesborough. We thought that was Mary and Nellie standing outside in the yard to the right but now I have decided it can't be because Mary & Nellie were only young when Samuel died ; most likely Delilah in front; Samuel to the left; hired hand with the horse and maybe Charles on the bicycle? Did you see the woman standing inside in front of the window....could be Vertie or Lula or is it Vertie and Lula in the yard or family kin visiting?

I love this picture Marilyn had in her trunk; Aunt Vertie had to go to work after John Thomas Walker died and they were building a new school at Sulphur Springs and a dormitory was built by Mr. Bob Walker (son of Henry & Hester Walker) ; Vertie became the cook at the dormitory. The first two women and the little girl I do not know nor the two men on the right. The tall men looks like Eddie Range, did he live in the dorm while attending school? The others are Vert, Mary, Nellie, Fred and John T Walker

This family has me puzzled? It looks like Samuel and Delilah with their two sons and two daughters but the little boy in front would not be their son; Delilah only had four children but the little boy certainly looks like the woman in the picture?

Mary Walker married Thomas Hunt ; what a resemblance between Marilyn and her mother and Aunt Vertie and Delilah Keefauver Martin

A beautiful wedding picture of Marilyn and a likeness to her mother Mary and grandmother Alverta "Vertie"
