JACOB M. ELLIS, ESQ

So much knowledge has been gained about Great Great Great Grandfather JACOB M ELLIS that I now need a separate page just for all the information found plus a page for each child

  • 1. William W. Ellis married (1) Lucinda Hunt and (2) Jane Robbins and moved to Missouri and Illinois. My grandmother Mary A. Hunt Walker always thought Bill Ellis was a doctor; Jacob and Elizabeth Beals Ellis son William was a doctor in Greene Co, TN...maybe they got the two Bills mixed up? Our Bill Ellis was a judge

  • 2. Robert Ellis married Elizabeth Dodge and was living in Virginia before moving west

  • 3. Elizabeth Ellis married Samuel M. Hunt my great great grandparents and they lived on west side of Buffalo Ridge, Gray Community

  • 4. Martha Patsey Ellis Bacon married Jesse Bacon ; this information I just found ....for years we thought Martha Patsey Ellis who married Richard Chinouth belonged to this family but I believe the two Martha Patsey's were first cousins and Martha Patsey Ellis Chinouth may have been the daughter of James and Elizabeth Gresham Ellis. Their grandmother was Martha and I surmise that they were named for her
  • 5. John G. Ellis married (1) Rebecca Murray in Tennessee and (2) Catherine Unknown in Mercer Co., Missouri

  • 6. Eliza Ellis married John S. Brown son of John & Nancy Smith Brown and lived in Washington County, Tennessee. I am totally unsure if Eliza fits with this family or with James and Elizabeth Gresham Ellis ; will leave her here until I find the correct parents

  • 7. Amanda Ellis Bacon married Charles Bacon son of Thomas & Sarah Barron Bacon brother to my Amanda Jane Bacon Walker. The lived on the east side of Buffalo Ridge near Loafer's Glory or the road to Knob Creek

  • 8. Jacob M. Ellis Jr became a doctor and married later in life to Sarah Maggie McPeak. My grandmother knew there was two brothers that she thought were doctors, Will and Jake but only Jake was the doctor because I found Will living in Illinois as a judge

  • 9. Letitia Tabitha Ellis "Letty" Letitia Ellis Gray married Robert H. Gray, his second wife and lived in Gray Community

  • 10. Mary Ellis Mary Ellis Maden married John Maden and they were living on the west side of Buffalo Ridge in Gray

  • 11. Rebecca Ellis Rebecca Ellis Hodges Roland Hodges and continued to live near Boones Creek. Some of their children are buried at Boones Creek Christian Church Cemetery

  • Might Jacob and Letitia be buried in one of these graves at Boones Creek Christian Church Cemetery?

The will of William Ellis father of Jacob M. Ellis reads: Fifth I give to my son JACOB a hundred & fifteen acres of land being a hundred acres in a tract lying on the west of my other land & the fifteen acres that I bought Nicholas Isenberges that joined the hundred acre tract also my negro girl caled Grace & negro boy caled Sollomon to be his forever. "William Ellis family lived on land I bought from Joseph Britten"

All the daughters have lots of descendants and are found in census records throughout Washington County. After much traveling around Washington County and observing land and records I truly say that Jacob and Letitia were living somewhere near the railroad trestle on Boones Creek Rd which is about halfway to Jonesborough ; after Jacob died in 1838 Letitia marries Joseph Clark whom I believe to be living also nearby the railroad trestle. He is a widower and she is a widow and it just makes sense for the two to join together in matrimony. We find Joseph's son Joseph and Letitia's son Jacob and daughters Mary and Rebecca living in the household with James Clark son of Joseph living next door. I also found the marriage license for Joseph Clark and his first wife and Jacob M Ellis JP did the rites of matrimony ; little did Jacob know that after his death his wife would marry to Joseph Clark
