JEREMIAH BACON OF MAIDENCREEK TWP.,BERKS CO., PENNSYLVANIA
Jeremiah Bacon was born about 1725 and raised near Salem and Gloucester Co., New Jersey. Salem Co. is the most rural county in the state of New Jersey. The name Salem is related to the Hebrew word shalom, meaning peace. The town and colony of Salem was founded in 1675 by John Fenwick. 1771 the will of Thomas Bacon leaves his estate to his daughter Mary (Bacon) Hutchinson the mother of two sons & one daughter (Thomas and John Hutchinson & Hannah Hutchinson Hogate Huit) and he left money to "Jeremiah Bacon whom some say is my son" Jeremiah had made the move to Oley Township, Pennsylvania. Oley Township government was established, in 1740 and over 50 families had acquired land parcels taking up a large portion of the township's land. Oley's major iron works, Oley Forge and Oley Furnace. Jeremiah may have stopped off here and worked in Oley Twp. where they may have raised their family before settling in Maidencreek Twp. Sons Henry and Jeremiah made their way to Northumberland, Pennsylvania

Located at Sulphur Springs Cemetery is a tombstone that shows Bacon genealogy for John, James & Polly Bacon ; a stone that has been there all my growing up years and this summer 2010 I finally located it ; a great fine. Not sure how accurate it is but it is a big help in figuring out the Bacon kin ; Dicy A Bacon Humphreys who had the stone inscribed was a descendant of Charles Bacon son of James & Magdalena. I would love to correspond with a descendant of John & Polly Brown Bacon and hear about the story that nicknamed "Daunt" Bacon ; she may be wrong about the two Isaacs sons of James & John ; however, these families seemed to be living near each other and I can see how their families may have gotten mixed up with all naming them the same names
ISAAC AND ABIGAIL BARNES BACON
ISAAC BACON born January 10, 1754, Maidencreek Township, Berks Co., Pennsylvania died July 1826 Washington Co., Jonesborough, TN SON OF JEREMIAH & FRONICA BACON
Isaac I have learned was married in Pennsylvania to unknown and may have had two sons ; John and Thomas Bacon ; I believe he married ABIGAIL BARNES in Tennessee? Deed Book 6, Page 161 shows 8/19/1797-Joseph Barnes sells land to Isaac Bacon - 100 acres for $300 Spanish milled dollars - landowners nearby: Morgan Murray, William Horner. Wit. John Melvin, Elizabeth Hunt, and Joseph Barron
May 7, 1831, Abigail Bacon, widow of Isaac deceased, and Charles W. and John B. Bacon, heirs of same, to Jacob Tailor, $10.50, 1-1/2 acres north fork Boons Creek, corner Henry Hale. Wit. Levi Bowers, Peter M. Reeves, Robert Duncan. Recorded on oath of witnesses Robert Duncan and Levi Bowers August 24, 1831
1830 Census for Washington County shows Mrs. Abigail Bacon with three sons at home between the ages of 20-30. Three sons at home in 1830 were Charles W, Jonathan and John
Children of Isaac & Abigail Barnes Bacon
1. Thomas Bacon born in Berks Co., Pennsylvania to unknown wife. He marries Julia (Hardeman) and they move to Texas taking with them Jonathan Bacon who was listed as "insane" (mentally incompetent) in 1850 who needed a guardian as mentioned in Isaac's will
Isaac E.W. Bacon II married Sarah Hunt August 24, 1819. Sarah was the daughter of Jesse Hunt and Elizabeth Shipley *According to the Bacon genealogy stone Isaac was the son of James & Magdalena sp. Motelena on the stone* ; however, the two Isaacs being cousins may have lived near each other and have been mixed up
3. Charles W. Bacon born after 1802 married Sarah McDonough in Illinois and had two sons John & Andrew both physicians ; Charles is buried in the Bean Cemetery in McDonough, IL
4. Joseph Barnes Bacon August 12, 1791 married Agnes Crouch and moved to McDonough Co., IL ; they had one known son Larkin Bacon and a grandson Dr. Joseph Barnes Bacon

7. Jonathan Bacon abt. 1802 never married and mentioned in Isaac's will with Thomas Bacon as his guardian ; he was in Texas living with stepbrother Thomas Bacon' family in 1850 ; Thomas deceased
A recent discovery with thanks to Linda BEAN Tidwell and the Bean Cemetery in McDonough Co., IL list the following:
Charles W. died Sept. 18, 1838 age 34 ; Charles married Sarah McDonough December 1835 and two sons were born to them ; Andrew abt 1836 & John abt 1838 ; Charles dies and Sarah marries William Hughes and has two daughters Mary & Sarah (census 1850 IL shows William Hughes with Mary and Sarah Hughes, Andrew and John Bacon ; Sarah Bacon Hughes dies before 1850 ;1860 census shows Andrew Bacon a physician with a wife and daughter ; John is also listed in census records as a physician

I have found double kin through both the Bacons and the mates they married and in some cases I am closer kin to the mate than the Bacon side...what an upheaval from the regular flow of my ancestry lineage..still fun
JAMES AND MAGDALENA NEUMANN BACON

Thomas Bacon (November 1793-September 1871) married Sarah Barron (lived their entire life near Samuel Douglass, John Walker, Richard Martin & Nicholas Keefauver on what we call Douglass Chapel Rd and near Pleasant Valley Rd)
(circa 1805-1869) married (1) Jane Bacon of John Sr (2) Margaret Ann Bayless (3) Cynthia Grimsley Hicks (widow of William Hicks) ; Isaac appears to be the son of John Bacon on the Bacon genealogy stone but again this may be a family mix-up with the two families living in the same areas and naming children the same names (Isaac lived his entire life in Washington Co. with his 3rd wife selling the farm to E. Range in 1887)
(1814-1894) married Nancy Bacon and lived on the farm home place where descendants today are living
James is my great-great-great-grandfather who came to Tennessee with his brothers most likely along the Great Wagon Road from Berks Co., Maidencreek Twp., Pennsylvania about 1794 and settled on land that is centered in Sulphur Springs Community where today the great grandchildren of Charles Bacon a younger son of James and Magdalena Bacon continue to live today on their century old farm

Children of John and Polly Brown Bacon
1. Jeremiah Bacon married Delilah Pritchett had 8 children

Beside Sinking Creek is where the Hubert Thomas Bacon house stood. Joan Murray great granddaughter of Jacob Bacon said that Jacob Bacon (son of Thomas & Sarah Barron Bacon) built the house that Hubert T. Bacon (son of Jacob & Mary Elizabeth Gresham Bacon) lived in later. Still do not know who the original land belonged to; Barron, Bacon or Murray or all three at different times? The two story log cabin is not far from the Jacob & Hubert T. Bacon house location
Looking East toward Gray and Buffalo Ridge ; Henry Martin Walker bought land from Jonathan Bacon family 1870 (Deborah, son Joseph C, sister Sarah Bacon McIntosh) Jonathan was deceased ; I would like to know who the cabin in the barn belonged to? I suspect the log cabin was there when Henry M Walker bought the land. Henry & Amanda Jane may have lived there until they built the big house
An amazing construction of a real log cabin that has a barn built around it. I just discovered this cabin about a year ago. It is on the land where Howard Walker lived. Howard was the son of Elmer G Walker and grandson of Henry Martin and Amanda Jane Bacon Walker
I truly think this cabin was on Old Thomas Murray Land ; later Barron land and it might have been the home of Thomas & Phoebe Barron as well as Jonathan & Deborah Barron Bacon. Henry Martin Walker buys the land from Deborah Bacon & her son & daughters
a real wooden peg for the door ; my question is who built this log house? Was it Old Thomas Murray in the 1790's, Joseph Barron or perhaps Jonathan & Deborah Bacon Barron since they were the family that Henry Martin Walker bought the land from in 1870
SARAH ANN BACON daughter of Thomas and Sarah Barron Bacon ; she married John Harrison (his second wife - no children) She lived on Douglass Chapel Rd near Aunt Vertie Martin Walker ; anyone know where this house was located? I really believe it was on the land where Aunt Vertie and Fred & Nellie Walker lived. Sarah Bacon Harrison signed a deed with John Thomas Bacon about taking care of her in her later life ; however, John Thomas died first so his heirs of Vertie, Fred, Nellie & Mary would have gotten the place. I love it!
SARAH ANN BACON was living with John Thomas and Alverta Martin Walker
Thomas Bacon land and home was later the Range land. How did Thomas Bacon acquire this farm? Jonathan & Deborah Barron Bacon had to be living across the road ; was this originally Barron and Jobe land?
Located on the Elmer Walker Rd. Elmer Guy Walker was the son of Amanda Jane Bacon Walker & grandson of Thomas Bacon and Sarah Barron Bacon
ELMER WALKER STORE across from the BACON HOME PLACE. Janelle Walker remembers going to Uncle Elmer's store in the 1950's for a soda pop or to get a loaf of bread for mother. Joanne Murray and Peggy Walker just might be there. Janelle always got Joanne and Peggy's hand-me-down textbooks
Elmer and his son Elmer Guy, Jr. operated a country store between 1940-1950's
Dr Joseph Barnes Bacon was the son of Larkin Bacon and the grandson of Joseph & Agnes Crouch Bacon who moved to McDonough Co., IL and great grandson of Isaac & Abigail Barnes Bacon
Joseph Barnes Bacon was born in the village of Tennessee, McDonough Co, IL January 14, 1854. Parents were LARKIN CROUCH and HANOR (DURBIN) BACON. His father was a native of Tennessee, having been born at Jonesboro in that state in 1818. His mother was born in Louisville,KY., February 24, 1825. Larkin Crouch Bacon was a farmer by occupation, and a man of notable intelligence and admirable traits of character.
On September 12, 1888, Dr. Bacon was united in marriage with ELIZABETH LISLE BAILEY, wo was born at Macomb, IL October 25, 1865. Two children: WILLIAM SUTHERLAND BACON, born February 23, 1891, and DOROTHY LISLE BACON, born February 18 1896. Politically, Dr. Bacon was a Republican until 1896, when he allied himself with the Democratic party.
"In memory of Thomas Barren and Phebe Job/Jobe married Oct 31 day ... 1794 ; Thomas Barron was born in the state of Virginia Feb 6, 1776 day ... died the 23 day 1863 "Remember man as you pass by....come home"
Thomas Bacon Jr. born 1839 died Dec'r 27, 1866 ; James Bacon born Jan'y 1831 died Jan'y 12, 1858 ; J.T. Cox born Mar 3, 1844 died July 13, 1891 age 42 y 4 m 10 d
These stones were placed here when cleaning up the Bacon Cemetery located on the Elmer Walker Rd
ELIZABETH WIFE OF J.T.COX BORN AUG 17, 1841 DIED DEC 3, 1915 "Another link is broken in our household band, it will be joined together in a better time" Elizabeth was the daughter of Jonathan & Deborah Barron Bacon ; I just recently found her tombstone
The Range house sets near the Bacon Cemetery off the Elmer Walker Rd. I recently learned that the original Bacon home was a log cabin and when John Range bought the farm from the Bacons he eventually tore down the log cabin and built this house in its place. Across from the Range house on West Sinking Creek there is a log cabin inside a barn ; maybe this was the Bacon cabin? or it could be the log cabin that Henry and Jane Bacon Walker lived in before building the big house
These stones now lie in the Meadowview Estates between the Henry Martin Walker home and the Bacon Cemetery. Sarah the daughter of Jonathan & Deborah Barron Bacon & Arthur the son of Henry & Amanda Jane Bacon Walker
