ALLEN WATSON MORROW
The following is information gathered from Louise Pettus about the parents and grandparents of Allen Watson Morrow
JAMES MCKNIGHT MORROW was born March 19, 1765 in North Carolina, and died October 05, 1829 in Lancaster Co., South Carolina. He married SUSANNAH WATSON, daughter of DRURY WATSON and SARAH ALLEN. She was born June 16, 1765 in VA, and died October 07, 1837 with burial in the Old Six Mile Cemetery, off Hwy 521 and the Henry Harris Rd, Lancaster Co., South Carolina
John Watson's will is located in : "Extracts from Minutes of Committee of Safety, Prince Edward County, Virginia"; American Archives, Vol. 3, pp. 616-617
John Watson was father of Drury Watson (b. 1740, Prince Edward Co., VA; died 1820 and buried at Old Six Mile). Will also in Will Book #3 page 403 Prince Edward County,VA and it mentions a bequest to his son Drury Watson
Drury Watson married Sarah Allen 1762 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia
John Watson was born 1710 in Scotland; died June 1805 Prince Edward County, VA. married Mary Allen. Mary died prior to 1790
I am still uncertain if John and Drury both married Allen women? I think Drury Watson did marry Sarah Allen because Susannah named a daughter Sarah, a son Allen Watson and another son Drury which are all family names from her side
As told to Louise Pettus by Virginia Heath; "it is from John Watson that the long lived Morrows get their genes" I wonder if the height of the Morrows comes from the Watson as well? My Drury Lemuel Morrow grandson of Drury Morrow was tall and slender
A glance at some history of Prince Edward Co., shows that our Watson was definitely in Prince Edward Co., Virginia
Bradshaw's History of Prince Edward County, Virginia list June 1780 Drury Watson appointed and qualified second lieutenant and in 1840 County Democratic Committee list Allen Watson, Drury Watson
Prince Edward County, Virginia was Formed in 1754 from Amelia County and was named for Prince Edward Augustus, son of Frederick, Prince of Wales. For more than 100 years, the county courthouse was located in the village of Worsham, where the colonial debtors prison, built in 1766, still stands
PATRICK HENRY. After his final incumbency of the Governorship of the State (1784), the celebrated Patrick Henry made his residence for a time in Prince Edward County, dwelling upon the banks of the Appomattox from the latter part of 1786, until 1794. Signed, Patrick Henry Dorothea Henry, (his wife) And witnessed by: Tarlton Woodson, John Miller, WOODSON ALLEN, JOHN WATSON
ALLEN WATSON MORROW FAMILY
The Morrows were successful cotton plantation owners in Lancaster, South Carolina. The picture above is a cotton house later used as a wash house and is still in service today. A handy house to have around and I see it as a lovely playhouse like I use to play in as a child. Oh the fun of a real playhouse to decorate and pretend which is now a thing of the past
