KIN BURIED IN THE MT BETHEL CHRISTIAN CHURCH CEMETERY

Mt Bethel Christian Church and Cemetery are located on the Bowmantown Road/Hwy 75 almost to the Greene County line and Hwy 11-E. Today they have a new brick church beside the older church. The cemetery is behind the church with Barkley kin buried there. Mt Bethel was founded about 1838-1840 when Will Eames and Marietta Haws settled in the community and were members of the Church of Christ. Other early members were Jacob R and Elizabeth Miller, (Jacob Miller Sr donated land for the church -William Haws and Henry Bolton were trustees); Samuel and Polly Keebler, Mr & Mrs. Burgess Barkley, Henry and Deborah Bolton. Many times have I traveled this road with my mother when we would take my sister to Tusculum College and little did I know about the history in this place where many years later our son would preach his first sermon in this church
