BENJAMIN SHIPLEY

Benjamin Shipley the oldest son and child of Richard and Keturah Barnes Shipley. Benjamin may have married twice (1)Catharine "Kitty" Hawk and (2)Elizabeth Unknown? We know Benjamin left a will written April 2, 1802 and reads: "wife Elizabeth, son Nathan granddaughter Rebecca daughter of son Nathan; son James and "all my children" Teste: Joseph Brittin, James Chamberlain. February session 1803"

Benjamin Shipley, Sr came from Anne Arundel County, Maryland before 1784 purchased land near Buffalo Ridge 1789 and married Elizabeth Unknown....(Benjamin) died 1803 ; children listed Nathan and James Sr

James Sr married Unknown and had children (1)Nathan and (2)Adam ; Adam married Catherine Brown in 1824 ; Catherine Brown Shipley married secondly Adam's cousin Enoch T. Shipley (Enoch T had also been married first to Elizabeth Hoss) ; Adam husband of Catherine Brown died 1840 with three of their children apparently from an epidemic as reported in the Jonesborough Whig and Nashville Republican Banner. Two children survived ; Elizabeth and Adam. Elizabeth born 1831 daughter of Adam and Catherine married James R. Shipley born 1825. James R was son of Enoch T and Elizabeth Hoss Shipley (more cousins marrying). Adam born 1839 marries Elizabeth Robinson Cox.
