FUNERAL NOTICE - "The Toowoomba Chronicle", Friday, July 29, 1910We regret to announce the death of Mr. John Laidlaw who passed away at his residence, Cnr. of West and Taylor Streets, last evening. Mr. Laidlaw was cofounder of the firm of Messrs. Laidlaw and Peak (now Messrs. W.C. Peak and Co. ) had been ailing for many months, and death must have been a happy release. He leaves a widow and several children well known in the district. The funeral leaves his place this Friday afternoon at 4 O'clock.
OBITUARY - "The Toowoomba Chronicle", Saturday, July 30, 1910The funeral of the late Mr. John Laidlaw took place yesterday afternoon, Rev. R.U. Roberts officiating at the graveside. As stated yesterday, a long illness preceded the passing. The Late Mr. Laidlaw over 29 years ago was connected with the railway Department as a guard, and then as a Station Master in the West. He joined his brother George, (who then had a produce business in Brisbane) in taking over the business of Wilson Bros, in Toowoomba. After some time Mr. George Laidlaw retired and continued to be head of the firm Messrs G Laidlaw & Co. in Brisbane. The Toowoomba firm afterwards was entitled Messrs. Laidlaw & Peak. Mr. William C. Peak (the present head of the firm of Messrs. W. C. Peak & Co.) becoming a partner. Mr. Laidlaw retired about three years ago, the present firm seceding. Mr. Laidlaw took up a farm in the Bowenville district, with his family. Mr. Laidlaw was about 65 year of age at the time of his death. He leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters the latter being, Messrs. George, Herbert, John, Eric, Misses Violet and Evelyn, with whom much sympathy is felt at the loss of a sterling citizen and father.
