| My great grandmother, Alice Franklin, married
Jacob Hibbs Goodchild at Doughboy Creek in Queensland. Alice was the
eldest child of Henry & Ellen Franklin and was born soon after their arrival
in Australia.
On 26 June 1858 at Burghclere,
Hampshire in a double wedding
ceremony Henry married Ellen Bridgman and Ellen's brother, John, married Eliza
Parker. Soon after, the two couples boarded the British
Empire and set off for Australia. However, Eliza was not
impressed and before the year had ended returned to England; the others
eventually settled at Hemmant, Queensland.
