Rees Jenkins- 1801 to 1862
Rees was baptised at Cadoxton 31/5/1801. He was married in Neath when he was described as being of Neath Parish and Margaret of Llantwit Parish. They are buried at Cadoxton where the gravestone describes him as being of "Fairyland". Is this the grave of an earlier generation of one side of the family?
In the 1841 Census they are at "Gnoll Grounds" but Margaret and Jenkin (who is a baby) are not at home and I have not been able to find them. By 1851 they are at Fairyland where Rees is described as a Collier. He is in fact renting a mine which is described in "History of the Vale of Neath" - Llantwit Vestry Minutes - "March 4th 1852 ; that Rees Jenkins` Colliery be rated at £10 at Tan y Lan. Raised to £50 Dec 29, 1854; reconsidered June 2,1855, ... Rees Jenkins` Cefn Morfydd Colliery be rated at £15 Jan22 1857 ... advanced to £20 Sept 27 1860;  altered to £15 gross on  Mar 28 1861. When Jenkin marries in 1861 his father is described as a Colliery Proprieter. Jenkin`s daughter Margaret was born at Fairyland in May 1861 and was baptised at St. Illtyd`s , Llantwit.
I have researched the History of Fairyland House and will be linking to this at a later date.
Jenkin & Eleanor were not found until the 1881 Census CDs were published. They had moved to London where Jenkin is described as being a Dealer (Presumably in Coal). I was later to find his brother William living in the same 9Poplar) area of London (his birthplace given as Glamorgan, Reeth - an obvious error for Neath.
Margaret was left in Wales and in 1871 is with her grandmother in Prospect Place. Just before her marriage in 1881 she is with her uncle Rees at the same address.
