| According to family lore, Henry and Christine Blettner came to this country from Hessen Darmstadt, near Frankfort, Germany, about 1848-1849, when their son, John, was about 2 years old. It was their intention to settle in St. Louis, Missouri, but after landing in Baltimore, Maryland, they found their funds were too low to get to St. Louis. Hearing of a German settlement in Pennsylvania, they settled in the vicinity of Hanover Borough, Penn Township, York County., Pennsylvania. A search of the passenger arrivals at the port of Baltimore from 1848-1851 has thus far failed to turn up a record of the Blettner's arrival. |
