Johan Adam Diehl (1690-1755), my 7g grandfather, arrived at the port of Philadelphia aboard the ship Samuel in 1739 with his sons, Carl and Daniel. He took up 360 acres of land in York County, in what is now Spring Garden Township, paying an English agent £12 ($60) for the whole tract. At that time, the nearest mill was at Downington, Chester County. |
