Opal "Reed" Hamby was the daughter of Ida Watters and James Wilbert Reed of McCreary County, KY. They were married 2 Jan 1898. In 1905, at age 30, while working as a brakeman for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company, James was hit by a train near Danville, Kentucky at a place called High Bridge. My Dad talked about our grandfather who was killed by a train because he was deaf and didn't hear it coming. James is buried at Silerville, KY.

Sampson Reed, in the picture above, was born 15 Jan 1853 and died 18 May 1941. His wife, Petty Angenetta Phillips was born 18 Mar 1851 and died around 1893. Sampson next married Julia Draughn on 7 Aug 1893. That marriage didn't work out so he married a third time to Rutha Acres. When he died he was buried beside his first wife at Hazel Valley Cemetery, Oneida, TN.

The story goes that Angenetta died giving birth to the twins. Dillie was taken and raised by Sampson's sister Delilah and her husband Finley Thomas. They had no children of their own. Dillie was living as late as the mid 1980's at Science Hill, Kentucky on a lovely farm called "Cherry Hill Farm." She first married a Ponser and then a Harris. Her son Billy Ponser still lives nearby.
Sampson Reed was the son of Campbell C. and Martha "Chitwood" Reed. Campbell was a Union soldier in the Civil War.
Campbell's parents were Isaac Reed (31 Mar 1790-1854) and Phariba "Hatfield" Reed (1797-1836).

After Phariba died, Isaac married Phariba McDonald. They had two children - Harrison and Julian.
Isaac Reed's parents were John Reed (1760-9 Dec 1832) and Nancy Norris (1764-1856/57). John died in Campbell County, Tennessee (now Scott County). He was a Revolutionary War Soldier, South Carolina Line.
