David Ayers
1834-1896

David Ayers was the son of James Martin Ayers, Jr. and Jane Richey. He served in the Civil War and this is the transcription of his Discharge paper.

OATH OF IDENTITY

David Ayers of the town of Mendon County of Mercer in the State of Ohio
      On this 24th day of Sept in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty personally appeared before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Court for the county and State above mentioned, David Ayers who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical David Ayers who was a Corporal in the company commanded by Captain Merkles in the regiment 60th commanded by Lt Col Avery; that he enlisted on the 22nd day of Feby 1864 for the term of three years and was discharged at Columbus Ohio on the 30th day of May 1865 by reason of telegrams from War Dept May 3rd & 6th 1865.
