David Ayers was the son of James Martin Ayers, Jr. and Jane Richey. He served in the Civil War and this is the transcription of his Discharge paper.

To Whom It May Concern:
Know ye, That David Ayers a Corpl. of Captain Merkels Company, (I,) 60th Regiment of Ohio Foot Volunteers who was enrolled on the 22nd day of February one thousand eight hundred and sixty four to serve three years or during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States, this Thirtieth day of May, 1865, at Columbus Ohio in compliance with telegrams from the War Dept. May 3rd & 6th 1865.
(No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist.)
Said David Ayers was born in Wayne Co. in the State of Ohio, is thirty years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, Dark complexion, Hazel eyes, Black hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Harness Maker.
Given at Columbus Ohio this Thirtieth day of May 1865.
