Levi C. Strader Company A 1845-1864

Levi C. Strader was born in 1845 in Ross County, Ohio to Christopher Strader, III and Isabella Nears. He was one of eleven children, having eight brothers and two sisters. His brothers were Cyrus who was born in 1849, Christopher, IV in 1857, Jess in 1852, Milton in 1854, William in 1856, Jacob in 1860, Albert in 1862, and Henry in 1867. His sisters were Mary who was born in 1847 and Ella in 1858.
There is a military history that ran in the Strader family. Christopher Strader, Sr. supported Washington during the Revolution and was given land in Virginia by Patrick Henry. Christopher, Sr. came to Ohio before the War of 1812. His son Christopher, Jr. served in Captain Henry Mallon's Company in the War of 1812. Thus, it is not surprising that Levi would join the cause during the Civil War.
Levi was only 18 years old when he enlisted on February 20, 1864 for a period of three years. It is interesting to note that Levi C. Strader also had a cousin, Levi T. Strader. Levi T. Strader mustered into the same Company, but as a Sergeant.
Levi C. Strader died August 21, 1864 at Weldon Railroad in Virginia.

A special thanks to Thomas J. Walters for contributing this information. Levi C. Strader was his wife's great uncle.
