Robert Giblin

Robert Giblin was born February 15, 1829 in Killiashandra, County Leitrim, Ireland. Sometime between 1836 and 1837, he came to America with his parents, Michael and Ann Hayes Giblin, and an older brother named Thomas. His family settled and farmed in Pickaway County, Ohio.

On November 22, 1861, when he was 32 years old, he entered into service. He signed up to serve one year during the Civil War and became a Private in Company C of the 60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. On September 15, 1862, he was paroled at Harper's Ferry in Virginia. He mustered out with his Company on November 10, 1862 at Camp Douglas in Chicago.

Later, he settled in Williams Township, Sangamon County, Illinois and became a farmer. On April 19, 1863, when he was 34 years old, he married Eliza Carr. She was the daughter of Michael and Margaret Carr of Madison County, Ohio.

Robert Giblin was a member of the Stephenson Post #30 of the G.A.R. He died March 30, 1912 at the age of 83.
