"The children of my son John, deceased" were to receive a share of the proceeds of the sale of his estate, "children are not of this commonwealth" We would love to find descendents of John...

Deed Book A Volume 11 Page 241 - 242 John Sevier Sr. to John Handley, 300 acres on Nolochucky River This indenture made this eigth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninty seven between John Sevier, Gov. of the manifest State of Tennessee and County of Washington of the first part and John Handley of the same County and State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Sevier Senr. for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds to him in hand paid the Culpt whereof is handly acknowledges haveing ????? and sold and by these presents to ???? and sells unto the said John Handly his heirs and assigns forever all that tract of land lying and being in said County of Washington on the south side of Nolochucky River, ???? the primeises whereon said Handly now lies and bounded as follows. Beginning at a stake on the mountain then north fifty west one hundred and fifty poles to stake on the White Oak and Sour Wood. Then north seventy west one hundred poles to a Sycamore on the River bank. Then down the River as it meanders including an island one hundred and thirty poles to a Sycamore then Clarks corner then with his line south twenty eight east sixty four poles to hickory, then south one hundred fifty poles to a Red Oak then east one hundred poles to maple and bush near Clarks Creek, then north one hundred and fifty poles to a stake. Then a direct line to the beginning. Containing three hundred acres to have and to hold unto the said John Handley his heirs and assigns forever all the aforementioned land and premises against myself my heirs Executor or administrators and against all and every other person or persons having any lawfull claims unto the aforesaid lands and premisises. In witnesses whereof I have hearunto set my hand and seal this day and year above written. Who were the parents of John HANLEY. He may have had a brother by the name of Michael & one named Owen.

- Catherine MADDEN, John HANLEY Ontario County New York. Ron Hanley (Aug 25, 1998): Hello all, I'm stuck trying to get across the big ocean to Ireland. County Mayo to be exact with several names connected to my John Hanley and Catherine Madden. John was married to Catherine in Canandaigua, NY in 1866 at St. Mary's Church. John was born between 1835-1642 most likely in Ireland and I can trace him up to and including the 1905 census where his age is given as 63, however 1875 census state 40 years old. He slips from view between these two census periods at least in county towns surrounding Canandaigua. I have no death date for him. His parents were William and Catherine (Heaton) both from Ireland. I do not know what County in Ireland. John Madden and Ann or Nancy Finan are Catherine Madden's parents and are from County Mayo, but were married in Old Chelsea in 1846, and Catherine their daughter was born there in 1849. John Madden's father was Thomas, and his mother was Margret Slayne. Ann or Nancy Finan's parents were Harry and Mary (Jennings) Finan. My initial problem is locating John Hanley, then I need help for all the parents in Ireland. Not much to ask I'm sure. Emigrated to U.S. in 1805; admitted to Baltimore Typographical Society on 3/26/1808; married Margaret McKenzie Montgomery on 9/11/1811; naturalized in Philadelphia on 4/30/1813; moved to Nicholasville KY in 1813; Children: Thomas B (b. 6/28/1812); John Hilary (b. 8/11/1814); James (b. 3/4/1816); Lucy (b. 10/30/1817); Michael Curran (b. 9/4/1821); S. Grattan (b. 7/7/1823); Mary E. (b. 9/16/1825); Margaret E. (b. 2/10/1828); Ann S. (b. 3/13/1831); and Edward Francis (b. 10/13/1833).
- Elizabeth HANLEY - PA 1750. Carl J. Denbow (Aug 29, 1998): This is the only info on have on this line. Elizabeth is my g3grandmother. She married a Robert Smith of Peach Bottom Ferry, Washington County, Pa. Elizabeth was from County Armagh, Ireland. They had a son, William Smith who was born 22 Aug 1801 in Washington, Pa. William married Sarah Emmons in the 1850. William later lived in either Belmont or Monroe County, Ohio.
- ASHLEY, Margaret, HANDLEY, John - Thomas County, GA. Sandra Roth (Sep 5, 1998): John and Margaret were married in Thomas County, GA August 14, 1826. They had a son (my great-grandfather) John Ashley HANDLEY. He was born Oct. 15, 1822 (I think somewhere in Florida). He married Lucretia MIXON Jan. 20, 1850 in Wilcox County, GA. John Ashley HANDLEY served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was in Co. E, 49th Regt., GA. He was wounded in the Battle of Cedar Run in 1862. On May 6. 1864 he was captured in the Battle of the Wilderness, Mine Run, VA. He was listed as a Sergeant. He was then transferred to Elmira Prison in New York and released on June 16, 1865.
