My ALFORDS came from Monroe Co. to Lexington, Lafayette Co.,Moin early 1840s. There was John and wife Mary Catherine, Thomasand wife Malinda Miller Fife and Malinda's father, John Fife.In researching Alfords in Monroe I came across the name Handlyquite often in deeds, I believe. A Handly family lived fairlyclose to an Alford family. Have you ever come across the Alford name inconnection with the Handlys? Susan email@example.com (May 24 1997; Sep 22 2004)

Ga/Fl Handleys: Carl Martin, at email@example.com: I've just started research on the Handley side of my family. At some point in time John A., or just Robert V. moved to Fitzgerald, Georgia,(then Irwin Co., now Ben Hill Co.). I know Robert V. was the Irwin Couny Sheriff in the late 1800's and had 8 children. Ida Lucretia..Oct. 23, 1898-June 3, 1977..was my Grandmother. I have no info earlier than Archibald Hanley, whom I found on the 1850 census for Saline Co., MO with a child named Louisa E. Since my g grandmother was Emily Louisa (Ludie/Lutie), I am hoping the enumerator just got her name backward and this is my g g grandfather. His wife was named Emily also....but I do not know parents of either. An Archibald Hanley was also found on the 1840 census in Callaway Co., MO. Could they be the same? I'm new at computers as well as Genealogy. Betsy Thomas, email@example.com
