First Generation

Samuel WAGGONER. Born in 1785 in Surry County, in an area which became Stokes County, North Carolina. On 19 May 1807 when Samuel was 22, he married Susannah HAMMOCK, in Grainger County, Tennessee. Born on 15 Oct 1791 in Virginia, Susannah died in Washington County, Indiana on 20 Oct 1859; she was 68. Their son was:

Second Generation

Joseph G. WAGGONER. (Samuel) Born on 27 Mar 1808 in Grainger County, Tennessee, Joseph died in Borden, Clark County, Indiana on 31 Dec 1885; he was 77. He was a farmer.

Waggoner Family oral tradition says that Joseph G. WAGGONER was "High Sheriff" of Tennessee, and was asked to come to Clark County, Indiana to "clean it up" (apparently bands of thieves were roaming the countryside at that time). No written proof has been found as yet. He may have left a first wife and 12 children in Tennessee.

On 2 Feb 1850 when Joseph was 41, he married Lucinda C. TACKETT in Salem, Washington Co. IN. They had the following children:

Houstin B. WAGGONER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born on 9 Jan 1851 in Indiana, Houstin died on 7 Mar 1879; he was 28. Buried in Miller Cemetery, Deam Lake, Borden, Clark County, Indiana. On 12 Jun 1875 when Houstin was 24, he married Mary E. STEWART. They had one child:

Louis Buck WAGGONER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born circa 1857 in Indiana. On 3 Apr 1879 Louis married Hattie NEIL in Clark County, Indiana.

Stephen Douglas WAGNER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born in Jul 1861 in Borden, Clark County, Indiana, Stephen died in Pekin, Washington County, Indiana on 17 Aug 1945; he was 84. Buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Borden, Clark County, Indiana. He was a railroad laborer. Stephen married Manzell JACKSON. Born in 1860, Manzell died in 1929, she was 69. They had the following children:

George B. McClellan WAGGONER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born on 30 Nov 1863 in Bridgeport, Marion County, Indiana, George died in Borden, Clark County, Indiana on 9 Feb 1951; he was 87. Buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Borden, Clark County, Indiana. He was a farmer. On 27 Sep 1883 when George was 19, he married Nancy Jane PEYTON, daughter of William S. PEYTON & Millicent Ann STONE, in Clark County, Indiana. Born on 11 Nov 1866 in Bridgeport, Marion County, Indiana, Nancy Jane died in Borden, Clark County, Indiana on 8 Jan 1946; she was 79. They had the following children:

William Lee WAGGONER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born on 24 Apr 1866 in Muddy Fork, Carr Township, Clark County, Indiana, William Lee died at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan on 21 Aug 1925; he was 59. He was a farmer and owned a sawmill.

Bill Waggoner did die in Ann, Arbor, MI. At the Univerisity of Michigan. He had stomach cancer. They sent him home for burial. He came by train and laid 'in state' at the railroad station in Borden for three days. The story goes that he started turning black so they 'had' to bury him.

On 21 Sep 1886 when William Lee was 20, he married Lorena Missy CREAMER. They had the following children:

Charles S. WAGGONER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born on 23 Oct 1867 in Clark County, Indiana, Charles died on 11 Sep 1900; he was 32. Buried in Miller Cemetery, Borden, Clark County, Indiana. Charles married Addie unknown. Born in 1867, Addie died in 1928; she was 61.

Sarah E. "Lizzie" WAGGONER. (Joseph G., Samuel) Born circa 1872 in Clark County, Indiana. Clark County marriage records lists a marriage for a Sarah E. WAGGONER to Elijah E. PEYTON on 24 Oct 1889 in Clark County, Indiana.

Fourth Generation

Joseph Elmer WAGGONER. (G.B. McClellan, Joseph, Samuel) Born on 18 Jul 1884 in Indiana, Elmer died in 1944; he was 59. Known as "Big Wag," Elmer worked as an engineer for the Monon Railroad in south-eastern Indiana. On 7 Nov 1905 when Joseph Elmer was 21, he married Clementine Mae BELL. They had two children.

Samuel Lewis WAGGONER. (G.B. McClellan, Joseph, Samuel) Born on 4 Jan 1886 in Indiana. Known as Luke, he married Elva LEMMONS on 30 Mar 1907 when he was 21.

Clara Jane WAGGONER. (G.B. McClellan, Joseph, Samuel) Born in Jan 1890 in Indiana. On 6 Jul 1914 when Clara Jane was 24, she married Joseph ROSONE.

Anne B. WAGGONER. (G.B. McClellan, Joseph, Samuel) Born in Nov 1891 in Indiana. On 15 Nov 1915 when Anne was 24, she married L.A. HOEFRITER.

Edward Marshal WAGGONER. (G.B. McClellan, Joseph, Samuel) Born in Jan 1894 in Bridgeport, Marion, Indiana. On 10 Oct 1914 when Edward Marshal was 20, he married Leona SMITH.

Lee Omer WAGGONER. (G.B. McClellan, Joseph, Samuel) Born in Oct 1896 in Indiana. Omer was a railroad worker. On 24 Apr 1917 when Omer was 20, he married Jennie ROBBORN.

Mary Jane WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 23 Sep 1889 in Borden, Clark County, Indiana, Mary Jane died in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana on 12 Jul 1977; she was 87. On 3 Feb 1910 when Mary Jane was 20, she married Leo Wesley FARNSLEY, son of John Franklin FARNSLEY & Martha "Mattie" Belle COMBS, in Clark County, Indiana. Born on 2 Sep 1887 in Harrison County, Indiana, Leo died in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana on 29 May 1964; he was 76. They had the following children:

Frederick C. WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 29 Aug 1894 in Indiana, Frederick died on 7 Aug 1946; he was 51. He worked as a saw mill hand for his father, and later as a painter and music teacher. Frederick married Effie MORRIS. (Born circa 1894 in Indiana). They had two children.

Charles Asa WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 23 Apr 1897 in Indiana, Ace died in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana on 19 Aug 1957; he was 60. He worked as a sawmill boss, and later as a musician. He also owned property. Ace married Anna Ethel HEDGES. (Born circa 1896). They had the following children:

Nora Prudence WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 12 Dec 1903 in Indiana, Nora died in Westland, Wayne County, Michigan on 1 Jul 1969; she was 65. Buried in Kraft Graceland Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana. In 1920 she worked as a saleswoman in a grocery.

Glenn Irene WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 19 Jun 1906 in Borden, Clark County, Indiana, Glenn Irene died in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana on 10 Jun 1973; she was 66. On 16 Mar 1924 when Glenn Irene was 17, she married Living DEEM, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. They had one child.

Lorena Mae WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 7 Apr 1910, Lorena died in Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana on 17 Feb 2000; she was 89. Wilma Elizabeth WAGGONER. (William L., Joseph, Samuel) Born on 24 Apr 1913, Wilma Elizabeth died in Elkhart, Indiana on 13 Aug 1988; she was 75. Buried in Detroit, Michigan.
