Sarah E. Baker (nee Dreibelbis)
died 1 December 1913 - Angola, Indiana
Keller Sarah Baker, daughter of Solomon and Rebecca Dreibelbis, was born in Northumberland County, Penn., Jan. 19, 1831, and departed this life at Angola Dec. 1, 1913, aged 82 years, 10 months and 12 days. She was one of a family of ten children, all of whom are living except one sister. She came to Indiana when she was about 26 years old and was united in marriage to George Baker Nov. 12, 1858. To this union was born 6 children, Marion, Laura, George, Nelson, Laverne and William, all of whom have preceded her in death except Nelson B. of Angola. On Dec. 6, 1894 she was united in marriage with George W. Keller. Several years ago she united with the Rehoboth Lutheran Church. She leaves one son, Nelson B. Baker; one stepson, Luman L. Baker; five brothers, three sisters; several grandchildren. Services were at Jefferson Union Church Dec. 4. Burial, Sweet Cemetery. + 12-1-1913

Combs Laverne "Peggy", 67, of 332 W. Spring St., LaGrange, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at her residence. She was born Jan. 17, 1921 in Noble County to Carna and Iva (McCoy) Hiatt. On Nov. 22, 1942 in Albion, she married Bernard Combs. She was co-owner with her husband of Barney’s Market, which they sold in 1970. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, LaGrange. Surviving with her husband are two sons, James M. of Topeka, and Rex L. of Howe; a brother, Dean L. of Albion; and six grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday in Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange. Mrs. Jane Kreamer, 84, widow of William Kraemer [sic], died at the home of her grandson, Donis Spurgeon, near Pomona Chapel, Wood township, and the funeral was held Saturday morning from Bethel chapel with interment in the local cemetery. She had been in failing health for some time and developed pneumonia on Sunday. She was born at Bennetsville, this county, and was a member of the Methodist church. The surviving children are: Charles Kreamer, Texas; Mrs. William W. Waggoner, New Albany; Asa Kreamer; Dennis Kreamer, William Kreamer, Mrs Nora Hartley, Clark county.

Once more the angel of death has visited our midst, and taken away another of the old citizens of this county. William F. Creamer, who was born in Prussia Germany 1830. Died from heart disease July 23 1902, his age being 72 years 8 months. He came to this country with his father at the age, of 14 years. United with a German M. E. church when 18 years old, was married to Mary J. Ward Jan. 1, 1851, afterward moving to Polk township this county, where he resided until his death. To this union was born 12 children 5 boys and 7 girls. The wife and eight children survive. The children living are Mrs. Mary Snyder of Mo., Charles A. Creamer, of Texas. Asa B. Creamer of Harristown Ind., Mrs Katherine Elliott; of Bedford Ind., Mrs. Nora Hartley, of White Co., Ind., Mrs. Lorena Wagoner, of Borden, Ind., Wm. F. Creamer Jr. and Deermis A. Creamer of Washington Co., Ind., Mr. Creamer was a staunch republican, a man of deep convictions, a respected citizen and lived an upright and honest life.

William Creamer, 81, died Monday at the Washington County Memorial Hospital, following and illness of several months. He was born in Polk township, the son of William and Mary Ward Creamer, on March 1, 1872. He was a retired farmer and lived in Washington county all of his life; was married to Belle Mull on May 31, 1894, and she preceded him in death several years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Kirby, Detroit, Mich. and one brother, Dennis Creamer, of New Albany. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Methodist Church at Pekin, with the Rev. Uen Kay officiating. Burial was at Bethel Cemetery, with Dewalt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dreibelbis, Samuel: an old citizen of Jefferson Twp, we believe, died on Thursday evening of last week. He was quite aged. Some ten years ago his wife departed this life and was buried in the Albion Cemetery. As the friends concluded to make the Sweet Cemetery in Jefferson Twp the family burying ground, the remains of Mrs. Dreibelbis were disinterred on Saturday and were recommitted to the earth together with the body of her husband in the Sweet burying ground on Sunday. (A later article stated many bodies of the Baker family were moved from Albion to Sweet Cemetery.) Albion New Era 3-26-1885 [note: Although the given name here is "Samuel," the facts fit closely to Solomon Dreibelbis, husband of Rebecca Engle, who died 14 March 1885 and is buried with him in the Sweet Cemetery. Mrs. Dreibelbis had died 2 Oct 1874. Solomon Dreibelbis is also the father of Mary Dreibelbis Baker and Sarah Dreibelbis Baker]

Second Lt. George T. Fogas has received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross, according to word received by his wife, Mrs. Margery Fogas, 3233 Broadway. He is with the 10th air force in the China-India-Burma theater and has been overseas since last October. The son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Fogas, he received his wings at Ellington field, Houston, Tex., and completed further training with the troop carrier command at the Sedalia Army air base in Missouri.

Fogas, jeweler, who died 13 years ago. Mrs. Fogas' parents, Frederick and Franziska Noelke, were at Cassel, Germany, where they had gone for a visit, when she was born. She was a life resident of Indianapolis. Before she was married, Mrs. Fogas went back to Germany for a visit. She attended Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors, besides the daughter, are a son, George T. Fogas, Westport, Conn., and a brother, William C. Noelke, Indianapolis.

Hiatt Earl T, 72, 629 Water Street, Avilla, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born in Noble County June 14, 1895, the son of Alvin and Martha (Dreibelbeis) Hiatt. He married Ethel Perry in 1927 at Fort Wayne. He had lived in Avilla since 1926, moving here from Fort Wayne. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 240 and was a retired Nickel Plate Railroad worker. Survivors include the widow; four sons, Virgil, Fort Wayne, James, Dallas, and William, all of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Ferrey and Mary Sue Gottier, both of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, Dale Roberts, stationed with the U. S. Navy in Jacksonville, Fla., and John Roberts, Pensacola, Fla.; and several grandchildren. Three brothers, Homer of Beecher, Ill., and Dewey and Carna, both of Albion, also survive. Hiatt Mattie Alice, 76, wife of A. A. Hiatt, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Hospital. She was born in Ill., the daughter of Peter and Susie Dreibelbis, and came to Indiana with her parents when a child and settled in Jefferson Twp and had been a resident of Noble County 70 years. She was one of a family of five children. For a half century she resided at Bakertown where the Hiatt family operated a grocery store for many years. Eighteen years ago they located in Rome City and operated on the mainland, which they later leased and erected a home on Triplett’s Point, where they resided. Surviving are the husband; seven sons, Elbie, Mishawaka, Harry, Dewey and Carna of Albion, Elza of Elkhart, and Dr. Homer of Beecher, Ill.; 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ora Dreibelbis of Albion and Alton Dreibelbis of Garrett; and a sister, Mrs. Lulu Snyder of Albion. Snyder Charles H, 81, a lifelong resident of the Albion community, died at 2:30 a.m. July 4 at his home. Funeral was Saturday afternoon in Rehoboth Lutheran Church. Burial, Rehoboth Cemetery. He farmed southeast of Albion for a number of years before retirement. Clinton, his son, now farms that land. Coming to Iowa in a covered wagon, his father was one of the first settler in that state. Survivors are his widow, Lulu; a daughter, Mrs. Claude Hile of Fort Wayne; 3 sons, Milo of Grand Rapids, Mich., and George W. and Clinton of Albion; and 11 grandchildren. + 7-?-1940

He was born April 1, 1890 in Green Twp to Charles and Lulu (Dreibelbis) Snyder. He married Lottie May Hawk on Dec. 24, 1914 in Albion. He was a retired Noble County Highway employee. One daughter and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, 4 sons, Leroy H., Fort Wayne, Harold H., Ligonier, Claude E., Orlando, Fla., and James E., Elkhart; a sister, Delpha Nicholson, Garrett; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was born Feb. 22, 1894 in Noble County to Charles H. and Lulu (Dreibelbis) Snyder, and was married July 31, 1915 in the Methodist Church to Bertha Coats. He was a lifelong resident of the Albion community, a retired General Electric employee, and a member of the Eagles Lodge. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Preston (Eva) Young of Albion, and Mrs. Merl (Barbara) Smith of Findlay, Ohio; one son, Robert of Albion; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Delpha) Nicholson of Garrett; one brother, Clinton of Albion; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. One son preceded him in death. Funeral was Tuesday at Bonham, Miser & Brazzell Funeral Home in Albion. Burial, Christian Chapel Cemetery. + 3-?-1972

Snyder Lulu O, 89, (b. 1-18-1870) died at about 2 p.m. Feb. 24, 1959 in the Kondas Nursing Home. She and her husband, the late Charles Snyder, resided in Green Twp before moving to Albion in 1936. She was a member of the Lutheran Church here. Surviving are 2 sons, George and Clint of Albion; one daughter, Mrs. Howard Nicholson of Garrett; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Final rites will be this afternoon at Bonham & Miser Funeral Home. Burial, Rehoboth Cemetery. + 2-?-1959

Elisha R. Stewart

Elisha R. Stewart Dead. Elisha R. Stewart, age 91 years, died Saturday at the home of his son, Marion, at Oakland, Ill. While visiting his son he was stricken with the flu from the effects of which he died after a brief illness. He was a native of North Carolina but located in Finley township and was a leading participant in the activities and institutions that add to the good name of Scott County. He was a successful farmer, a highly respected citizen and an active member of the New Liberty Baptist Chruch. His wife preceded him to the better land. He is survived by five sons, Oscar, of Underwood, N. D.; Marion, of Oakland, Ill.; Albert, of Arkola, Ill.; Leander B., of Scottsburg; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Ed Collins, of Scottsburg, and many relatives and friends. The remains will be brought to Scottsburg where the funeral service will be held Thursday.

Sally Ann Stewart (nee Ashabrannar)

Death of Mrs. E.R. Stewart. Mrs. Elisha R. Stewart died Friday morning at the family residence in Finley township of heart disease and complications. Aged 77 years, 9 months and 10 days. Funeral sermon was preached at the residence Saturday by Rev. Charles H. Bartle after which the remains were interred at the Scottsburg cemetery. She is survived by the husband, five sons - Marion F., of Oakland, Ill.; Oscar D., of Underwood, N. Dak.; Albert R., of Arcola, Ill.; John W., of Henryville, and Leander B., of this place - and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Flora Collins, of Finley township. Sally Ann Stewart was a daughter of John and Mary Ashabraner and was born in Washington county, Indiana, July 7, 1836. On October 20, 1857, she was united in marriage to Elisha R. Stewart and immediately after their marrriage they pruchased and moved up-on the farm in Scott county where they resided until her death.

SOUTHERN INDIANA DEATHS -- SALEM -- Donovan Tackett, 71, formerly of Salem, died Monday at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was a native of Bloomington, a retired employee of RCA Corp. Monticello Division, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars James W. Pyle Post 2231 and Disabled American Veterans Post 56, both in Monticello, and First Christian Church of Salem. Survivors: his wife, the former Nettie A. Paxton; two sons, Miller Tackett of Lafayette and David Tackett of Chesterton; a daughter, Donna Tackett of Indianapolis; a half brother, Gene Lee; three half sisters, Vivian Swartz of Grammer, Thelma Gilstrap and Jo Ann Lee; and four grandchildren. Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday, Dawalt Funeral Home. Burial: Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday.

Elijah Tackett, of Jeffersonville, went to work Wednesday morning, leaving his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Tackett, age 52, feeling ill. He returned in the afternoon to find that a neighbor, Mrs. Lulie Glascock, had just discovered his wife was dead in bed. Organic heart disease was the cause. In addition to the husband two sons survive.

Green Tackett of New Providence was instantly killed by a north-bound freight train on the Louisville, New Albany, Chicago Railway at a point sixteen miles north of this city early yesterday morning. Tackett was walking along the track, and being deaf and dumb did not hear the approach of the train.

Thomas Tackett
died 25 March 1925 - South Finley Township, Scott County, Indiana
Killed by Kick of a Mule. Thomas Tacket died about midnight Sunday at the home of Wiley J. Richey in South Finley township, as the result of a kick in the stomach by a mule, Sunday morning. The deceased was 21 years of age, and his home was in New Albany, where he lived with a widowed mother. He was making his home with Mr. Richey, and was expecting to crop on Mr. Richey's farm this summer. Undertakers Stewart & Son were notified of the death and brought the body to their undertaking rooms to be prepared for burial. Mr. and Mrs. Richey sent L. B. Stewart to New Albany, Monday morning, to break the news of her bereavement to the mother.

Lucinda Waggoner (nee Tackett)died 25 Feb 1912 - Scott County, Indiana
Mrs. Lucinda Waggoner Dies Here. Mrs. Lucinda Waggoner died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Meiboom, in this place, of paralysis. Aged 78 years, 10 months and 23 days. Her remains were taken to Borden, Monday, for interment in the Old Home graveyard near that place. The deceased was born in Ohio and her maiden name was Tacket. She was the mother of twelve children, and is survived by four sons, one daughter and many grandchildren. Mrs. Waggoner came here from Borden several weeks ago to visit her daughter. Some time ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered.
