First Generation

William Jacob KNAUSS. Born ca 1807 in Pennsylvania, William died after 1889. He worked as a miller in Indianapolis, Indiana.

On 15 February 1888 William Jacob KNAUSS applied for an Civil War Pension from the Department of the United States Army. He stated that he was disabled from injuries sustained breaking mules while serving as a private in Company I of the 10th Indiana Infantry (Union). His dates of service are listed as 1 October 1861 to 10 October 1861, when he was injured at Bardstown, Kentucky under the command of Captain John W. PERKINS. The War Department was unable to find his name on the rolls of Company I, 10th Indiana Infantry, and never approved his pension.

On 19 Dec 1863 when William was 56, he married Magdalena ZIMMERMAN in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born circa 1832 in Pennsylvania. They had the following children:

Second Generation

Miles Dana KNAUSS. (William Jacob) Born on 16 Nov 1864 in Indiana, Miles died in Camarillo, Ventura County, California on 12 Dec 1950; he was 86. Buried on 16 Dec 1950 in Forest Lawn, Glendale, California. He was a railroad engineer. On 20 Mar 1889 when Miles was 24, he first married Jannette BAKER, daughter of J.J. & Ella BAKER in Marion County, Indiana. She was born in Nov 1870 in Indiana. They had the following children:

Edna KNAUSS. (Born 1891 in Ilinois) Gertrude Ellen KNAUSS. (1893-1987)

About 1905 Miles second married Minnie Bell TOTTEN. Born on 13 Apr 1874 in Indiana;. Minnie died in Los Angeles County, California on 11 Jun 1957; she was 83.

Clarence M. KNAUSS. (William Jacob) Born in Sep 1866 in Indiana. Clarence worked as a Railroad Conductor. On 8 Jun 1890 when Clarence was 23, he married Eva L. REDDENBAUGH (or RHODENBAUGH), daughter of William REDDENBAUGH (or RHODENBAUGH) & Nancy CHRISTIE, in Fountain County, Indiana. Born in Sep 1870 in Indiana. They had the following children:

John KNAUSS. (William Jacob) Born on 16 Jun 1874 in Indiana. John died in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California on 13 Aug 1964, he was 90. Buried on 17 Aug 1964 in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Los Angeles County, California. He was employed as a buyer for Charles Mayer & Co. in Indianapolis for 45 years. On 15 Sep 1902 when John was 28, he married Elizabeth Izora FAUST in Marion County, Indiana. They had the following children:

Third Generation

Gertrude Ellen KNAUSS. (Miles Dana, William Jacob) Born on 9 Sep 1893 in Decatur, Macon County, Ilinois, Gertrude died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana on 14 Feb 1987; she was 93. Buried on 18 Feb 1987 in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. She worked in sales for L.S. Ayres & Co. and was a member of Downey Avenue Christian Church. Gertrude married William H. HURLEY. Born ca 1906 in Illinois, William died before 1987.

Winnie KNAUSS. (Clarence M., William Jacob) Born in Feb 1891 in Indiana. In 1920 Winnie was a widow living in the home of her parents and daughter in Charleston, Coles County, Illinois. She was working as a housekeeper. She had married unknown JACKSON. They had one child:

George Faust KNAUSS. (John, William Jacob) Born on 15 Jun 1903 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana in the home of his grandfather, George W. FAUST. George died in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California on 27 Jan 1973, he was 69. Buried on 29 Jan 1973 in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Los Angeles County, California. George married Ethel WORLAND, daughter of James WORLAND & Ida ANTLE. Born on 15 Feb 1898 in Indiana. Ethel died in Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles County, California on 26 Jun 1996, she was 98. They had the following children:

Katherine Elizabeth KNAUSS. (John, William Jacob) Born on 16 May 1907 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Katherine died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles County, California on 1 Mar 1991, she was 83. Buried in Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California. Graduated Shortridge High School, Indianapolis, Indiana. On 17 Aug 1927 when Katherine was 20, she married Harry Lee TACKETT in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana.
