Principally and first of all I Recommend my Soul Into the hands of god that gave it, my Body to the Earth to Be Buryed in a Christian Like Manner Nothing Doubting But at the general Resurrection I Shall Receive the same again By the Mighty Power of god, and as to my worldly goods which it hath pleased god to Bless me with, I give and Dispose of In the following Manner...
Item I give and Bequeath unto my Brother Gedion Rice all my Lands and plantation where I Now Live to him and his heirs forever only he the Said Gideon Must pay unto Mary Rice Twenty Eight Shillings which is Due from me to her.
Item I Leave my household Goods Stock &c. to be sold at Vendue and the Money to be Equally Devided Between my Brothers Evan Rice, Ephraim Rice and Thomas Rice son of Cleaverly Rice, Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Eighth Day of March 1772.1

     John Clayton Thomas was born on 1 June 1923 in Carteret County, North Carolina. He was the son of Luther Wesley Thomas and Amanda Lorena Fulcher. John Clayton Thomas died on 14 February 1930 in Carteret County, North Carolina, at age 6. His obituary indicated "The child was killed last Friday afternoon as he left the school bus by the car of Dr. E.B. Whitehurst. Occupants of the truck said that they did not see the on-coming car and Dr. Whitehurst insisted that he did not see any life whatsover about the bus. The child was struck by the left rear fender as he ran around the rear of the school bus. He was taken immediately to the Morehead City Hospital by Dr. Whitehurst and one of the Beachem girls, but the seven-year-old child died before arriving there."1
