WELCOME TO THE SEVENTH EDITION OF THE “WORLD WIDE W*GG*”
Editor - Vivian Egan
Having survived a major catastrophe with the WAGG & WEGG data file in June, the W*GG* database is now back on track, steadily growing, and spreading wider, with our first W*GG* contacts in South Africa coming out of the woodwork. [My thanks to Ian WEGG, Paul WAGG & Vivienne READING for coming to the rescue.]
WORLD WIDE W*GG* ON THE WEB
Alan Stanier has advised that due to a change in web servers, he has had to move the W*GG* pages. The new URL is http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~alan/Wigg/ [the old one should continue to work, but in preference please use the new URL].
Just recently I discovered there is now also a WAGG forum up and running at

VITAL RECORDS UPDATE
David WIGG has completed extracting the WIGGS GRO Birth entries, and these are now available at Alan's webpage. David is now working on the marriages, and Sheila GOMPERTZ has generously offered to commence the deaths.
Gillian DENNY in New Zealand has been kind enough to extract the WIGG & WIGGS entries on the New Zealand Indexes. Due to privacy issues, we have only uploaded the Births to 1920 and Marriages to 1930. However, the deaths are available to 1990. Gill has sent the complete extracts up to 1990, so if you would like any look-ups in the more recent years for Births & Marriages, just drop me a line.
Andrew WEGG hopes to have the WEGG entries available on-line shortly. So far the Birth [courtesy of Andrew] & Marriage [courtesy of Rose FRENCH] entries have been completed, and the deaths are well under way. Watch this space !
I extend our extreme gratitude to all of the above for their hard work in making these indexes available

FEATURE FAMILY
My WAGG forebears came out to New South Wales in 1832 from London. George WAGG and Sarah nee HOANE were married in Finsbury in 1827 and their daughters, Hepzibah and Anna, were baptised in the Independent Chapel in Shoreditch. George was a Blacksmith and after emigrating he also worked as a whitesmith and bellhanger in Sydney. After Sarah died in 1841, he married Sarah DICKSON and had a further eight children. According to his death certificate in 1892, George was born in Norfolk in about 1802. Although his place of origin and parents haven't been found, he may be related to William WAGG, carpenter, who was also born in Norfolk in about 1805 and arrived in Sydney with his wife and children in 1837. They were also Congregationalists.
My 4 x great grandmother was George's eldest daughter, Hepzibah WAGG who went to South Australia in 1845 where she married and spent the rest of her life.
PROFILE SPOTLIGHT - Rosemary WIGG
Hi. My name is Rosemary Wigg. I was born in Castlemaine, Victoria & raised in Bendigo. I married fellow pharmacist Murray Wigg in 1963 & have 2 children, David, aged 35 & married to Carolyn; & Andrea aged 33 whose partner is Craig. David & Carolyn have 2 children, Matthew aged 4 & Stephanie aged 6 months. Andrea & Craig have Amber aged 12 months.
I have worked as a volunteer librarian at the LDS Traralgon Family History Centre for the past 11+ years so have a reasonable working knowledge of things genealogical. I started to do the Wigg family history over 10 years ago as no one else seemed interested. The family goes back to Abraham Wigg born circa 1781 - who knows where - & all attempts to find this magical "where" have so far failed. He was settled in Gillingham, Kent, by 1808 & most of the Kent Wiggs today are his descendants. The rest are spread out all over the world - Australia, New Zealand, Canada, & USA to name a few. There is an abundance of male births over female ones, & also a high incidence of heart disease going back over 150 years. There is also an abundance of name repeats - in particular Abraham. I used this name to try to track him & started a small database, based on St. Catherine House BDMs, &, like Topsy, it grew. Now I have a huge database combining all these entries, those of the 1881 & other census records, & the IGI which I have passed on to Vivian. The frustrating thing is that, after all this time, Abraham is still as elusive as ever!
