Valentine Crotts was baptized 8 Feb 1781 in Lexington, Rowan, North Carolina, the son of Jacob and Eve Cratts. This part of Rowan County became Davidson County in 1822. He married Susanna A. Hinkle, daughter of Nathan and Rebecca Ledford Hinkle about 1802 in Rowan County. Valentine and Susanna had the following children:
Sally Crotts christened 24 July 1803 in Becks Lutheran Church, Rowan Co., NC. She married Peter Monical. Peter died before May 1843 in Washington Co., Indiana. Peter and Sarah were parents of John S., Dennis, George W., Amelia, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah and Margaret Monical.
