Alexander Holmes was born about 1770 in Dublin, Ireland. He married Jane McCaw about 1792 in Ireland. Jane McCaw was born about 1772 in Dublin. Born to them were David Holmes, John McCaw Holmes, Margaret, Jane, Rhoda, Mary G., Castria, William, Telemachus, Angeline, Horatio Nelson Viscount and Foster. Alexander , the father, was a school teacher in Virginia and Kentucky.

David Holmes, the oldest son, was killed in a barn raising in Pulaski Co., Ken in 1817. He was about 22 years old. Margaret never married and lived with her brother, Telemachus who also never married. Jane Holmes Ingram died giving birth to a daughter who also died about 1820. She was around 20 years old. After Castria's marriage to Samuel Sly, it is unknown what happened to her. William died as a child in Wythe Co., Va. Angeline did not marry.

Jerusha, born 7 Dec 1808 in Kentucky, was the daughter of John and Delilah Cooper Hill. Children of John and Jerusha were: David (1828-); Polly Ann (1829-1863); William A.T.(1832-1900); Amanda J.(1835-1896); John H. (1837-1864); Theodore Foster(1840-1904); James G. (1842-1855); Telemachus P.(1845-); Horatio Dallas(1845-1903).

Rhoda married Silas Lee 15 Nov 1826 in Pulaski Co., Kentucky. She and eight of her eleven children died in a cholera epidemic in New Madrid, MO between 1840 and 1850. Known children of the couple were: Faunt, Rhodett, Silas B., and Amanda. Frederick Lee, listed with the family in one census shows a birthplace of Germany. Elsewhere his birthplace is listed as Missouri.

Horatio Nelson Viscount Holmes married Nancy Porter 27 Sep 1837 in Pike Co., IL. Their children were David J., Nancy Jane, Alexander M., John Porter, William Henry, Horatio R., and Mary Adele. Margaret born 1855 and died July 1856. Silas Foster born 30 Jan 1857; md Nancy Ann Pendleton on 10 Mar 1887 in Adair County. Silas died 6 Sep 1830. Children were Cary, Laura, Lonsy, Vina and Coy. Sherrod William born Nov 1857; md Sarah Bryant 27 Jan 1881 in Adair County. Sherrod died 27 Mar 1928. Seven children were born to this couple. Ebenezer Thompson Holmes born 25 May 1861; md Malinda M. Pendleton on 18 Dec 1886 in Adair County. Ebenezer died 6 Oct 1950. Known children of this couple are Mattie, Ida and Willy or Wilby.
