William of Watchfield 
West Mill 1850

This is the last will and testament of me William Vines of West Mill in the tithing of Watchfield in the parish of Shrivenham in the county of Berks, miller. I direct all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses to be fully satisfied and paid and subject thereto I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Vines and my daughter Mary Matilda Vines all my cash in the house and book debts and the household furniture, stock in trade goods, chattells, implements, utensils and effects of every description whatsoever which shall be in and about my dwelling house and mill at the time of my decease, equally to be divided between them, share and share alike in order they may carry on together my work or business at West Mill aforesaid.
I bequeath unto each of my children John Vines, the said Richard Vines, Jacob Vines, William Vines, Susannah Lewis, Michael Vines and the said Mary Matilda Vines the sum of thirty pounds, the like sum of thirty pounds to be divided equally amongst the issue of my deceased daughter Ann Greenhill and the like sum of thirty pounds to be divided equally amongst the issue of my deceased daughter Elizabeth Gerring the payment of such sum to be paid upon his or her attaining the age of twenty one and my will is that my said sons Jacob and William who are now abroad shall be entitled to their one ninth share only in the event of their returning to this country and in case either of them shall not return to this country within ten years after my decease or shall depart this life in my lifetime then I bequeath his or her share to be divided equally amongst such of my other children as shall be then living.

And I direct that the share of my said daughter Susannah shall be paid within one year after my decease.

All the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto my said children Richard and Mary Matilda share and share alike.

I appoint my said sons John and Richard executors of this my will and I hereby revoke all former testamentary writings by me at anytime heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twelth day of February 1850

Proved at London 28th March 1850 before the judge by the oath of Richard Vines the son one of the executors to whom administration was granted having been first sworn by commission duly to administer power reserves of making the like grant to John Vines the son also the other executor when he shall apply for the same.

The family of William1773 Vines

William m. Ruth Bridges at Bremhill 1797.  Ruth died 28-3-1825 and was buried at Highworth as also was William in 1850.
William jnr. was born at Foxham 1810 and Susanna at Christian Malford 1814 so must have moved to the Highworth area after that.
They farmed at Fresden Farm between Highworth and Shrivenham, the site of a medieval hamlet. Fresden Farm has been since demolished and the name transferred to a nearby property. William later operated West Mill at Watchfield, a water mill on the River Cole.

Mary Matilda      m. Peter Dore at Shrivenham 23-12-1874, yeoman of Highworth.

Daughter Ann Greenhill was also mentioned in the will but it is not known where her birth  came in the family
