The Will of William Vines of Highworth
1865

This is the last will and testament of me William Vines of Highworth in the county of Wilts.
I devise all my real estate and I give and bequeath all the personal estate to which I am entitled at the time of my decease to my wife Mary Mathurine Vines and to my friend Mr Henry Reynolds of Stanton Fitzwarren in the said county of Wilts in trust for the following purposes, namely in the first place to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses.
I desire that my said wife shall enjoy the rents and interest to arise from such my property during her life and that at her decease the following legacies shall be paid thereout namely Fifty pounds to my brother John Vines 
One hundred pounds to my brother Jacob Vines
One hundred and twenty pounds to my brother Michael Vines
One hundred pounds to my sister Susanna Macey the wife of George Henry Macey
And One hundred pounds to my sister Mary Matilda Vines
It is my desire that if either of my said brothers or sisters should die in my wife's lifetime leaving lawful issue such issue shall take their parent's share equally share and share alike but in the event of either of them so dying leaving no lawful issue then the share of such one to revert to the residuary fund to be disposed of as hereinafter directed.
The rest and residue of my property it is my wish should revert to my surviving brothers and sisters at the decease of my wife Mary Mathurine Vines but nevertheless I desire that my said wife shall dispose of the same in such manner as she may think best.
I exempt every trustee of my will from liability for losses occurring without his own wilful default and authorise him to retain and allow to his co-trustees or co-trustee all expenses incidental to the trusteeship. 
I appoint my friend Henry Reynolds to be trustee of my will and I appoint my said wife and my said trustee to be executrix and executor of my will. Lastly I revoke all other testamentary writings. 
In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand this twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty five

Proved at Salisbury the twenty fourth day of November 1865 by the oaths of Mary Mathurine Vines widow the relict and Henry Reynolds, the executors to whom administration was granted.

The testator William Vines was late of Highworth in the county of Wilts, miller, and died on the 17th day of October 1865 at Highworth aforesaid.

The 1850 will of William Vines, this William's father, mentions that sons Jacob and William were abroad. Jacob went on to Australia from Mauritius. From the 1861 census it is inferred that William junior and Jacob went together to Mauritius where both married. William junior and wife Mary Matherine returned to England.
