The Will of Thomas
Vines of
Marriage Park, Little
Somerford 1697
In the name of God Amen.
The first day of December in the nineth yeare of the reigne of our Sovereigne
Lord William the third by the Grace of God now king over England Anno Dom
1697. I Thomas Vines of Marriage Park in the Parish of Little Somerford
in the County of Wilts yeoman, being sick and weake in body but of a sound
and perfect mind and memory doe make and declare my last will and testament
in manner and forme following:
That is to say first and
principally I comend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it
and my body I comitt to the earth to be decently buried and as for such
worldly goods and temporall estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to
bestow on me in my life I give and dispose thereof as followeth viz:
Imp. I will that all
my debts be well and truly paid and my funeral expenses discharged by my
executor hereinafter named.
Item I give and bequeath
unto Margarett my beloved wife the sum fifty pounds of currant English
money to be paid unto her within the space six months next after my decease
and my will and true meaning is and I doe hereby direct and appoint that
Margarett my said wife shall hold and enjoy all my leasehold estate lying
in Tockenham? in the said County of Wilts during the terme of her naturall
life.
And I give and bequeath
the same leasehold premises after her decease to my son Daniell Vines together
with the lease thereof to hold during the residue of the terme mentioned
in and by the said lease as shall at the death of my said wife be
to come and unexpired.
Item I give and bequeath
unto my said son Daniells three children now borne each of them the sum
of 5 pounds of currant English money to be paid unto them as they shall
attain the respective ages of one and twenty years. And my will is that
if any or either of the said three children shall happen to dye before
he, she or they shall attain to the age of one and twenty years that then
the share of him, she or they so dying shall be and remaine to the survivor
or survivors of them equally to be divided.
Item I give and bequeath
unto my sonne Thomas Vines the sum of five shillings of currant money.
Item I give unto my son in
law Giles Minchin? the sum of one shilling.
Item All the rest and residue
of my goods and chattels and temporal estate whatsoever not herein before
bequeathed I give unto my son Robert Vines except two beds with the furniture
thereunto belonging, viz my best bed with the furniture and one of my middle
sort of beds with the furniture and one of my middle sort of potts and
one kettle, which said beds, furniture, pott and kettle I give unto my
said wife and also one kettle and one pott which I give unto my said son
Daniells wife.
Item I doe hereby nominate
and appoint my said son Robert Vines full whole and sole executor of this
my said will, and my loving friends John Wayle of Malmesbury, gent, and
Isaac Wayle of the same, distiller, to be overseers thereof, relying on
their integrity to see this my will is performed in all respects and for
their care and pains to be taken therein I give unto each of them two shillings
and sixpence apiece to buy each of them a pair of gloves and I doe hereby
revoake, annull and make void all wills and testaments by me formerly made
and doe declare this to be my last. In witness whereof I have hereunto
sett my hand and seal the day and yeare first above written.

A true and perfect inventory
of all the goods and chattles of Thomas Vines late of Marriage Park in
the parish of Little Somerford in the County of Wilts yeoman taken and
appraised the vijth (7th) day of December in the viiijth (9th)
year
of the reigne of our Sovereigne Lord William the third now king over England
in Anno Dom 1697 by us whose hands are hereunto sett and subscribed.
