Notes:
1This chart shows DNA test values of number of base repeats at various markers.
2Marker numbers at the top in red are regarded as relatively fast moving, ie have higher probability of mutation.
3The cell background colour is white if the respective values match the modal values for the family. Coloured backgrounds indicate a mutation.
4All surnames are "Vines" unless otherwise shown.
5When results of 2 people match 25/25,it is considered to be very highly probable that they have a common ancestor, ie related genetically.
Differences of 1 or 2 at 1 or 2 markers of 25 indicate that random mutations have occurred and there is high probability of a common ancestor.
Greater differences may mean that any common ancestor lived before the introduction of surnames about 900 years ago.
[2]
This family is well documented from John and Christian Vines of Grittenham near Brinkworth, Wiltshire. They left wills in 1713 and 1725; John was born about 1660.
These tests have shown few mutations.

Note: there is a suspicion that Sam Mingia, of North Carolina, has a common ancestor in the Wilts1 Family;the two family surnames were in adjacent counties of NC in the 1880 census. This is being investigated further by extension of DNA tests to 59 markers.

The Haplogroup estimated , based on the Y STR tests, was "N" and this has since been proved for Fred and Ronald Earle by SNP test. Further SNP tests are unnecessary.
The Haplogroup "N" is commonest in the circumpolar people of Northern Europe and Asia, notably Finland. Its appearance in Wiltshire since at least the mid 1600s is mysterious.

[3]

Joe and Ed Vines of US proved a family legend that they descended from a German immigrant named Lipps, whose widow married a Vines in Nth Carolina about 1780, with name change for her children. Their DNA tests matched Roger Lipps who descended also from the same ancestor without a family name change.

The 3 tests for Vines/Lipps are compared to the modal value at each marker and prove arelationship through a common ancestor before 1780. Note the 2 mutations, the one at marker 449 having obviously occurred during or since the divergence of Joe's branch. The other, at marker 437, 14 for Roger Lipps could have been the original in the Lipps line with a divergence to 15 in the later Vines births, but this is not certain.

[4]
Eddie is thought to be descended from Benjamin Bush Vines born in Anson County NC 1723.
[5]

These testees are all from unconnected families, and are unnrelated to the families above.
They are all from the R1b haplogroup except for Derek, whose DNA has not yet been grouped.
Stanley's DNA has been treated as the modal for indication of differences and mutations.
[6]
NB:
Testing was done by GENEBASE and not all markers tested by FTDNA were tested for. Several others tested gave these results:
DYS441=13,DYS462=12,DYS635=23, DYS461=12,
GATA A7 2=12,GATA A10=13,GATA C4=23
Coloured backgrounds indicate different results to Kit 16917 Stanley Vines
[7]
These Vine surname testees are descendants of people who lived mostly in the English Channel counties, probably migrants from France.
