The Will of Joshua
Vines of Reading 1845
This is the last will and
testament of me Joshua Vines of Reading in the County of Berks, Esq'r.
I direct that all my just
debts and funeral expenses and testamentary expenses also be paid by my
executors hereinafter named out of this property.
I give and bequeath all the
residue of my unsettled? freehold and leasehold estates and effects whatsoever
and wheresoever, both real and personal, to be divided into three shares
viz. one third part to my son Charles Vines, one third part to my daughter
Sophia Weston? and one third part equally between my grand children Anne
Young and John Charles Young and in case of the death of my grandson John
Charles Young before he attains the age of 21 years then his share to be
given to my grand daughter Anne Young.
Also should my brother John
Vines outlive me I leave him the yearly sum of 20 (pounds) for his life.
Likewise to Ann Vines of
Tytherton the yearly sum of 5 (pounds) for her life to be paid out of the
above property.
I appoint Charles Vines and
John Wallis Young to be my executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness thereof I the said Joshua Vines set my hand this 28th day of
February 1845.

presence of us present at the same time and subscribed by us in the presence
of the said testator and of each other

pay out of the before mentioned property the yearly sum of three pounds
to my sister Sarah Vines of Box during her natural life.

Appeared Personally John Wallis Young
of Caversham in the County of Oxfordshire and made oath that he is one
of the executors and also the writer of the codicil to the last will and
testament .....? hereto annexed of Joshua Vines late of Reading in the
county of Berks esquire deceased, and having now particularly observed
said codicil the same being without date and contained in the words following
: "I direct that my executors pay out of the before mentioned property
the yearly sum of three pounds to my sister Sarah Vines of Box during her
natural life" and subscribed as "Joshua Vines", he lastly made oath that
he was present when the said deceased duly executed said codicil in manner
as appears in the attestation thereto on the twelfth day of March one thousand
eight hundred and forty five.

On the 15th day of December
1846 the said John Wallis Young was duly sworn to the truth of this affidavit
before me illegible
Proved at London with a codicil 18th
December 1846 before the worshipfull James Parker Draut? Doctor of Laws
and surrogate, by the oaths of Charles Vines and John Wallis Young the
executors to whom Admin was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
