_____________________________________________________________________________
Charles was the 3rd child of Benjamin Vines (1687-1763) and wife Elizabeth
Holliday, born 1722 at Grittenham.
He married Mary Baker on 30th August 1757 at Wootton Bassett, within 3
miles of Grittenham. The first four children were baptised at Brinkworth.
On 13th Nov 1769 Charles and Mary were received into the Moravian Church
at East Tytherton where the children born after that were baptised.
Apparently
the first born, Joshua, became known as Joseph, and was so-named in the
will. The other sons are named in the will in order of birth, as
also are the daughters. He made a special bequest to his wife for Joseph
so it seems likely that the latter was handicapped in some way and would
need lifelong support.
The
witness E Vines would be Edward, born 1767, 6th child of Charles brother
Edward (1725-'85) and wife Ann Henly. He was a solicitor in Reading Berkshire.
Charles
died in February 1797.
