The Will of Ann Vines of Stockham Marsh
Foxham, Parish of Bremhill
1847

This is the last will and testament of me, Ann Vines of Stockham Marsh in the Parish of Bremhill in the County of Wilts, spinster.

I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the expenses of proving and carrying into execution this my will, be in the first place duly paid and satisfied out of my personal estate.

I give and bequeath unto my brother William Vines the sum of three hundred pounds of lawful British money.
I also give and bequeath unto my sister Elizabeth Pegler the sum of three hundred pounds of lawful British money. 
I also give and bequeath  unto my sister Mary Lester the further sum of three hundred pounds of lawful British money.

I also give and bequeath unto Charles Hayward who had for many years managed my farm the further sum of three hundred pounds of lawful British money and I desire that the last mentioned legacy shall be accepted and received by him in lieu and satisfaction of all monies which I may owe him at the time of my decease for services as my bailiff or otherwise and in case of his refusing to give a receipt or otherwise to discharge my estate from all monies so owing I hereby declare that the last mentioned bequest of three hundred pounds in his favour as well as any other bequest or beneficial interest hereinafter given to him by this my will shall be null and void.

I give devise and bequeath all those my freehold messuages lands and hereditaments situate in the Parishes of  Christian Malford and Bremhill in the said county of Wilts and all other my freehold leasehold and copyhold hereditaments unto my nephew and nieces William Lester, Mary Lester and Elizabeth Lester (son and daughters of  my said sister Mary Lester) and to my niece Elizabeth Vines (daughter of my late brother Joseph Vines) to hold the same last mentioned messuages, lands, hereditaments and premises unto and to the use of my said nephew and nieces, the said William Lester, Mary Lester, Elizabeth Lester and Elizabeth Vines, their heirs executors, administrators and assigns for ever equally to be divided between them as tenants in common and not as joint tenants. 

I give unto my bailiff the said Charles Hayward all and singular my household goods and furniture, books, plate, linen, china, glass and wine spirits and beer and all my dairy utensils, stock of cheese and farming stock of all kinds both live and dead being in or upon the farm lands and premises now rented by me of the Marquis of Landesdowne and also in and upon the farm lands and premises rented by me of Lord Wellesley, as well as in or on my own lands Christian Malford and Bremhill now in my own occupation for their own absolute use and benefit, the paying thereout and thereof  from all rents taxes tithes? and other outgoings out and payable for or in respect of the same several premises.

And as to all the rest residue  and remainder of my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever both real and personal I give devise and bequeath the same unto my nephew the said William Lester and to the said Charles Hayward their heirs executors administrators and assigns equally between them share and share alike as tenants in common  and I appoint the said William Lester and Charles Hayward executors of this my will, hereby revoking all other wills and codicils by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last will and testament. 

In witness whereof I have to this last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand and seal (that is to say) my hand to the first sheet thereof and my hand and seal to this second and last sheet thereof the twenty sixth day of May one thousand eight hundred and forty seven.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Ann Vines the testatrix as and for the last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto

Proved at London 1st August 1848 before the judge by the oath of William Lessiter (in the will written Lester) and Charles Hayward the executors to whom admon was granted having been first sworn by Canon to duly administer.
