Pierre CHAUVIN DIT LE GRAND PIERRE

Pierre Chauvin dit le Grand Pierre had come fro Solesme, in the district of La Fleche, with one hundred men recurited by Maisonneuve as carpenters and land clearers in 1653. At the end of his five year onctract, he deced to remain in Canada and start a family. In addition to working as a carpetnter for Mathieu Ranuyer, at Montreal, then for Pierre Boucher at Varennes, Chauvin also farmed on the Ile-aux-Foins. Near the end of his life, he accepted a land grant from teh Supliciens and returned to Montreal, dying there at the beginning of August 1699.

Pierre married Marthe AUTREUIL on 16 Sep 1658 in Montreal, Quebec. (Marthe AUTREUIL was born in St-German, Noyen-Sur-Sarthe, Maine, France.)
