Jean LECLERCHe was born circa 1639 at Dieppe, arch-bishopric of Rouen, Normandy, France. He married Marie Blanquet in France, circa 1657. He then immigrated to New France, with their son, Pierre, circa 1660. They settled on Īle d'Orleans, where he is a tenant farmer in 1662.
In the Census of 1666, Jean Leclercq is a sailmaker, age of 27, and living at Ste-Famille on Īle d'Orleans, with his wife, Marie Blanquet, age 36, and their three children: Pierre, age 8, Marguerite, age 6, and Anne, age of 18 months.
He also worked as a sail maker and cotton maker.
In the Census of 1667, Jean Leclercq is now 29 years of age, his wife, Marie Blanquet, age of 35, with their four children namely: Pierre, age 7, Marguerite, age 6, Anne, age 4, and Marie, age 18 months. As we can see, the ages vary from one census to the other. Six children ensured his descendancy, including three sons: Pierre, Jean Charles and Adrien.
He married in France and brought son Pierre to New France with them.
