From e-mail by Zilda Hebert-FrogueThis Pierre dit Locat Renaud is the son of Pierre Andre Renaud and Francoise Desportes. He was born 20 Dec 1699 in Grondines,Portneuf,Quebec. He married Marie Josephe Josette Chevalier, daughter of Jean Baptiste Chevalier and Francoise Alavoine,on 21 July 1739 at Michilimackinac (probably at the Mission known today as St.Anne's Church, which is now located on Mackinaw Island, off the coast of Michigan. The church is still there and the cemetery is still there because we saw it when we were there is Sept 2006. I did not,at that time, know that Marie could be buried there. Michilimackinac was a large area of land at that time covering the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula of what is now Michigan as well as Mackinaw Island. Fort Michilimackinac was a strategically located fortified trading post. The fort was not built primarily as a military facility but as a link in the French trade system, which extended from Montreal through the Great Lakes region and northwest to Lake Winnipeg and beyond.Overlooking the Straits of Mackinac connecting Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, the fort served as a supply post for French traders operating in the western Great Lakes region and as a primary stopping-off point between Montreal and the western country.
Pierre married Marie-Josepthte CHEVALIER on 21 Jul 1739 in Michilimakinac.
Pierre next married Marie AUBUCHON in Ste-famille, Cahokia, Illinois.
