M.-Francoise DESPORTES

  • Born: Abt 1652, St-Nicolas-des-Champs, Paris, Ile de France, France
  • Marriage: Pierre-Andre RENAUD DIT LOCAS on 5 Nov 1669

bullet  General Notes:

Francoise origianlly came to Canada as a "fille du roi", or "King's daughter" - women who agreed to travel to the new settlements in North America and marry a settler there in exchange for a 50 pound dowry from the French King. Of the nearly 1000 women who undertook the journey, about 800 made it to Canada. They made contracts of marriage with the men who had originally settled the New World and usually married within a few days or weeks of the contract signing. Often the women broke the contracts, only to remake them or make new contracts with other men. Francoise had second thoughts and broke her contract before finally marrying Pierre Andre Renault dit Locat

M.-Francoise married Pierre-Andre RENAUD DIT LOCAS, son of Jean RENAUD DIT LOCAS and Marie LAURENCE, on 5 Nov 1669. (Pierre-Andre RENAUD DIT LOCAS was born about 1640 in Leucate, Languedoc, France, died on 25 Jan 1713 in Grondines, Quebec and was buried on 26 Jan 1713 in Grondines, Quebec.)
