Joseph JOLICOEUR (HART)
- Born: 17 Jul 1817, Ste-Elisabeth, Berthier, Berthier
- Marriage (1): Genevieve (Jane) ROBERT on 7 May 1838 in St-Genevieve, Berthier, Quebec
- Marriage (2): Emilie PETIT in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts
- Died: 1 Aug 1891, Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts at age 74
General Notes:
Described as a carter on the 1870 census; found in Plattsburg, which is one of the places where Julia reported having been born. Other places were near Plattsburg. A day laborer in 1860.
Ste-Elisabeth is now in Joliette County. Was once in Berthier. Berthier has become Berthierville, on north-west bank of St. Lawrence River, north by northeast of Montreal. Berthier-bas is on the other side of the river.
Death record says he died of old age.
The family must have moved from Berthier to Plattsburg, Clinton County, New York, between 1850 and 1853. Their habit of continually changing the names of their children make it impossible to reconcile the children listed in the census with the children listed in the St-Genevieve church records. Some children could also have been christened at St Elisabeth or elsewhere.
The children listed here born in Berthier were taken from Baptemes, Marriages et Sepultures de ste-Genevieve, Berthierville (Berthier), by Society genealogique de Lanaudiere. But the family did an even number of events at St. Elizabeth's, which was in Berthier and now is in Joliette County.
Joseph remarried in Northampton, after the death of his first wife, and they had several children. I found three in the bmd index; images of their birth records by NEHGS. One child, Angelie M., died in 1887. I can find no record of Emelie Petit Hart, nor of her daughers Amelia b 1885 and Albina b 1887. I checked under alternate spellings and soundex.

Joseph next married Emilie PETIT in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts.
