VIERS, WILLIAM (Moon)-The following is a brief account of the Moon family (which began with two brothers, Jacob and William):...'The genealogy of the Moons is somewhat difficult to trace. It seems however that two brothers, Jacob and William settled in the county in early times. In 1750 Jacob purchased land from Thomas Fitzpatrick in the gorge of the south fork of Hardware. He also entered a small tract in the same vicinity. He sold out in 1777, and removed to Bedford County .... William bought a thousand acres from Hardin Burnley on the lower Hardware. When this purchase was made is not known, but the fact is stated in a conveyance of part of the land made by Moon to John Lewis in 1760. He died in 1800. His wife's name was Elizabeth, and his child-ren were William, Richard, Littlebury, Jacob, Judith, the wife of Charles Moorman, Susan, the wife of Thomas Tilman, Martha, the wife of WILLIAM VIERS, who removed to Mason County, Kentucky, Elizabeth, the wife of Henry A. Bryant, Lucy, the wife of John Steele, and Sarah, the wife of Robert Moorman.

VIERS, BENJAMIN-“Entered the service from Henry County, Virginia sometime in Oct 1775 and was under Capt. Reed. He marched with his company to Fredericksburg, Virginia and on to Georgetown where his regiment was the 14th Virginia under the command of Col. Blueford. This regiment marched to Valley Forge and went into winter quarters. In the spring this regiment was commanded by Brigadier Gen. Mulinburge and they marched on to the Delaware River above Philadelphia and styed about a month. The Brigade then joined the main army commanded by Lord Sterling and they marched towards Little York and from there to Trenton, on to Stoneypoint and Brandywine. They were marched on to Germantown and Monmouth and to a place near Little York and back to Winchester, Virginia. The American Army was constantly kept on the march to oppose the British Army. Benjamin was never wounded in the battles of Germantown, Brandywine, Monmouth and Little York. He distinctly remembers seeing Gen. Green and Gen Washington. In the fall of 1782 Benjamin was discharged by Gen. Mulinburge. From the time of his enlistment to his discharge Benjamin states he was in service over five years. Benjamin Viers was a free born coloured man born 3 Sep 1752 at Charlotte County, Virginia. After his discharge he went home to Henry County for about one year. Benjamin then lived in Amhurst County, Virginia for three years as overseer for David Alexander. He stayed a few months each in Bedford, Henrico and Portsmouth Counties before he went to Amhurst County, Virginia. He was married to Betsy Long in Amhurst County where they lived for five years. In Sep 1827 to Gallia County, Ohio. On 24 Apr 1833 Benjamin made application for a pension at Gallia County, Ohio. He was placed on the rolls 28 May 1833 with an annual allowance of $80. VIERS, JOHN (VIERS STREET):
136.(C) LO-A-107 John Viers House, 239 Viers Street. 1820's?; c. 1840-1860. Two-story central-passage single-pile wood-framed house dating from between 1840 and 1860 with a one-story rear ell, probably once a free-standing house, dating from the1820's. The rear ell was built by the Shakers from South Union who purchased this property in 1813. Present two-story front portico dates from 1930's or 1940's. John Viers purchased the property from the Shakers in 1838 and in 1860 subdivided some of the land for the town of Auburn. Viers is thought to have built the front of the house between 1838 and 1860, perhaps on the foundation of an earlier Shaker structure. Architecturally and historically one of the most significant buildings remaining in Auburn. 1.(C) Barn/corn crib/shed pre-1850? Heavy timber frame, gable roof, weatherboard siding, central unloading area.
