Louis Verstraete was among the thousands of Europeans who came to America in 1907 in search of a better life. At age 23, he left his homeland of Belgium and came to Chicago with nothing but $25 and his dreams.
The
VERSTRAETE
family tree began in the small
Oost Vlaanderen/
East Flanders town of Eeklo, Belgium, and soon branched out to the cities of
Ghent and Deinze.
One branch of the family is in France. In the US, branches of the family are
in Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.
