The Canaan Historical Society occupies the second floor of a Greek Revival building constructed in 1846 for a stop on the Franklin, New Hampshire to Montreal stage route. Local legends persist that the house was used as an Underground Railroad resting place, but no documentation has ever been found to verify this. Contact Person: Virginia Carr, President. Hours and Admission: Open by chance or appointment.

The Canaan Historical Society is developing a local heritage museum on the 2nd floor of the library. The Greek Revival structure was built in 1846 as a stage stop on the route from Franklin, N.H., to Montreal. Local legend is that the house was the last stop on the Connecticut Valley route of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War, but no proof has been established. Contact Person: Joan Cowan, Curator; Gloria Bunnell, Librarian. Hours and Admission: library open Tues and Fri, 1 4pm. Museum is open by chance or appointment.
