General Information

The state Trujillo is in the West of the country, to the north of the Andean mountain range. It limits by the north with the states Lara and Zulia, to the south with the state Barinas and Mérida, to the east with the states Lara and Portuguesa, and to the west with the Zulia state. 

Trujillo was initially founded by Diego García de Paredes on 1557. Trujillo changed of location several times, until in 1570 Francisco Labastidas definitively installs in the Valley of the Cedars and Trench of the Mukas. Trujillo comprised of the Province of Caracas until year 1786, when through Real Certificate, happens to comprise of the Province of Maracaibo. 

After the 1810 revolution, the territory of Trujillo was separated of the Province of Maracaibo, happening to contituir the Province of Trujillo. By Law of Political-Territorial Division of 1856, Trujillo constitutes itself in one of twenty one (21) provinces of the Republic and when prevailing the Federal Revolution, in 1864, proclaims the State Trujillo, conformed by the departments Trujillo, Boconó, Carache, Betijoque, Escuque and Valera. 

In the Constitution of 1881, it happened to comprise of the Great State of the Andes, along with the states Mérida and Táchira. The 3 of February of 1889, the Legislature of this last one declares dissolved this state, being constituted the section Trujillo in the State Trujillo with capital in the city of the same name since then the state Trujillo has conserved its character of state of the Republic of Venezuela.
