Táchira is in the south west end of the country. It limits the
north with the Zulia state, to the south with the Apure
state and the Republic of Colombia, to the east with the states Mérida
and Barinas and to the west with with the Republic of
Colombia.
The present Táchira state was considered place of passage
between Colombian Andean soil and the Mérida state. It is as well as on 1561
the city of San Cristóbal, located in the northeastern sector of the depression
of the Táchira is based, with access to three channels: Pamplona, Mérida and
the lake of Maracaibo. Politically the organization settles down as the province
of Táchira in 1856. Later in 1863 figure like Táchira state, soon in
1867 it is annexed to the Zulia state. In 1881 it happens to comprise of the
Great State of the Andess, until the Restoration Revolution in 1899 gives back
its category of state.
