On the base of the first Nueva Cordova (1 of February of
1562) Felipe II created the province of the New Andalusia or Cumaná;
Diego Fernandez de Serpa was his first governor, who refundó to the New
Cordova that included the territories of the present states of Anzoátegui,
Monagas and Sucre (24 of November of 1569) and gave the name of Cumaná.
It depended on the hearing of Santo Domingo until 1739 and 1777 on Santa
Fe de Bogota.
Monagas, is located in the Northeastern region of
Venezuela. It limits with the following states: to the north with Sucre,
to the Southeastern with Delta Amacuro
and Bolivar and to the west with Anzoátegui.
Its capital, Maturín, were founded like mission on 1760 with the name
of San Simón and San Judas Tadeo de Maturín, having had great
importance during the period of the war of Independence.
