General Information

Aragua, belongs to the North Center-Coastal region. It limits with the following states: to the west with Miranda and Carabobo, to the east with the Capital District and Miranda and to the Southeastern with Guárico. 

Maracay, city municipality and State Capital of Aragua of Girardot was founded on the 1.697 by Andrés Perez Almaza. Elevated to ecclesiastical parish by the bishop Diego de Ba6nos and Sotomayor in March of 1701. Other important cities are: Turmero, Was an old town of Indians in century XVII, denominating itself in 1781 like Nuestra Señora de Candelaria de Turmero; La Victoria, was erected like town of Indians of Our Lady of the Victory, granting him to it the title of city of the Victory in 1814; Villa de Cura, constituted itself from the 1717 like villa of San Luis de Cura, receiving title of city in 1722; Colony Tovar, this last one of German alpine style, was founded on 1843 by initiative of Ing. Agustin Codazzi and has endogamic characteristics. On February 8, 1848 the Province of Aragua is created. In 1863 figures as Aragua state, until 1873 when it takes the name from Guzmán Blanco state. In the Constitution of 1881 it conforms the Great Guzmán Blanco State. In 1889 it is recognized again as Aragua state. In 1917 Maracay lis established as its capital.

Family History Center (see Records on Microfilm)

The Family History Centers are part of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints and are available to their members to fulfill the covenant of Family Sealing.

However, they also provide an important service to the general public, allowing them access to their vast library of microfilmed civil records, ecclesiastic records, and many other documents of genealogical value without having to be a member of their church.

These centers are staffed with voluntary teams and there is no charge for the use of their facilities, except for some nominal fees for photocopies, pedigree charts, film rentals, etc.
