Affidavit by George Cantley in support of William Daniel, from Daniel's official Pension records.

GENERAL AFFIDAVIT
State of West Virginia, County of Raleigh
On the matter of: Claim for Original Inv. Pension of Wm Daniel Co. F. 13th W.Va. Inft. Vols.

On the 12th day of July A.D. 1883 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths George Cantley aged 52 years, a resident of [blank] in the County of Raleigh and State of W.Va. whose Post Office is Matville well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

That he was was(sic) acquainted well with Wm. Daniel the Claimant before enlistment and also well acquainted with him in the military service being on intimate terms & hailing from the same neighborhoods were together frequently while in the service as much so as the nature of the circumstances would allow our Regiments were frequently thrown together Claimant a member of the 13th & himself a Private of Co. "H" 7th W.Va. Cav. Vols. on the raid to Lynchburg Va. made in May & June 1864. The Regiments were both under General Crook's Command at the battle at Lynchburg Va. June 17th or 18th a detail of men from different Companies & Regiments was made and sent out on the enemy's flank to reconnoiter and that the Claimant were on this special detail and when the battle opened that this party aforesaid returned and fell with Co. "H" of the 7th W.Va. Cav. who were dismounted and charged all together on the enemy and on this charge the Claimant received a cut or wound of some description on the back of his left hand which bled quite freely at the time . . . and further declare that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution.
