> Site Development
This site was developed in order to share genealogical information regarding the
Stehmans that I have collected over the years. The site is titled Stehman/Staman
Genealogy but includes other variations of the spelling, including Stoneman/Steinman/Stemen/Stayman/Stamy.
Much of the data included here is attributable to researchers who have gone before me. As their efforts have taken me to this point, I hope that this site will make it that much easier for those interested in researching
Stehmans. For those interested in the Stemen surname, I recommend that you also go to:
> Koester Website
While I have incorporated some of the Stemen genealogy into this website, most data was generated by David W. Koester and his site on the
Stemen surname is much more complete
> Connections/Contributions
The Stehman/Staman family tree was not put together by "leaps of faith." However, when dealing with incomplete and /or conflicting data, "educated guesses" sometimes need to be made. A priority is
to correct errors that may exist here.
> Click here to let me know if you find what you feel are discrepancies and/or errors that may exist here
Also, it is hoped to expand the Stehman/Staman family tree.
> Click here if you are part of the Stehman family but not included in the family tree,
or if you would like to share information about mutual ancestors

> Selected Sources and Theories Regarding Stehman/Staman Genealogy
These sources and theories are substantially intact for others who may be interested in comparing/contrasting in order to reach their own conclusions about the validity of each. Although these sources are not in concert, much of each can/has been independently verified. However, none has been proven to be completely accurate and, to date, cannot be absolutely reconciled. Further, one cannot be completely sure that these theories were researched independently of the others. In short, it cannot be assumed that one theory corroborates another when, in fact, it may have been taken from the other.

Many of the Stehmans subscribed to the Mennonite faith and it was the religious persecution of Mennonites in mid to late 17th Century Europe that eventually led to their emigration to Pennsylvania. A brief description of their religious beliefs, their location in Europe, their emigration to America, and the settlement of my direct ancestors in Manor Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, may be found by clicking on the appropriate site shown in the page content listing.
