Georgina SATNAT VANGAMPELAERE

I don’t have very much information about my grandmother or her side of the family. She was born on March 10, 1891, in Maldeghem, Belgium, to parents Jeremia SATNAT and Mathilda VANLOO. I believe she came to America with her family in 1893.

She received it while living in Minnesota.

Georgina's and Alphonse's Marriage Certificate

Because we know both their birth dates, Georgina and Alphonse must have lied about their ages at their marriage — August 26, 1907. Georgina really was 16 years old and Alphonse would have been 29 that day in DeSmet, SD.

After giving birth to her 11th child, Vernon VANGAMPLEARE, Georgina SATNAT VANGAMPELAERE died at the age of 40.  Here is the translation of her funeral card.

Pray for the soul of
GEORGINA JULIENNE SATNAT
Spouse of Alphonse VanGampelaere
born in Maldeghem (town),
East Flanders (province), Belgium
on the 10th of March 1891, and died
in Hartwick, Iowa, U.S. on the 18th
of August 1931.

The days of the people are short;
the number of months relies you,
Oh Lord, you restrict him to the
number, we cannot pass.-Job14

The loved one, who passed away,
was a good Christian and a good
housemother; from a young age
she was true to the Lord and
she walked the path of his
commandments.

Dear husband, I don’t ask tears
from you, but prayers.
Take, I ask you, my mother-tasks
from me for the dear small ones,
who I must leave and raise them
in faith and obedience.

Dear parents, brothers and sisters,
family and friends, farewell for
a time! We hope for a reunion
in eternity.
