"I Thomas Spackman

Of Bushton in the parish of Clive Pipard in the county of Wilts Gentleman do hereby revoke and make void all wills and testaments by me formerly made and do declare my last will and testament to be as follows that is to say I give and bequeath unto my loving brothers William Spackman and Jacob Spackman the sum of one thousand and five hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to them immediately after my decease by the Executrix hereinafter named upon the Trusts and ?? and to and for the intents and purposes hereinafter declared and written of and ?? the same that is to say upon Trust that they my said brothers William Spackmand and Jacob Spackman and the survivor of them and the Executors and ?? and ?? of such survivor do and shall in their or his own names or name from time to time put the same one thousand and five hundred pounds out at interest on the best security or securities that htey can get or procure for the same or otherwise employ and improve the same sum of one thousand and five hundred pounds in such manner as they or he in their or his ?? think fit and shall pay apply and dispose of the ?? yearly interest and produce thereof so as the same shall from time to time arise and be realised over and above what shall be sufficient to answer and pay the costs and charges attending the execution of the trust hereby in them"

(..... waffles on like this for a bit) Summary as follows:

Thomas wants 300 pounds of this amount invested and the interest paid yearly to his "beloved wife Elizabeth" as long as she lives, and remains unmarried. The interest from the remained is to be used to "support and maintain" his sons Roger, William, Thomas and Jacob and his daughter Elizabeth "in meat, drink, apparel" until they reach the age of 21 years. They will then be paid a share of the interest. If they die childless before 21 their share is to go to the survivors. At the discretion of the trustees, 50 pounds may be used to apprentice each of the children to a trade if thought necessary. If Elizabeth remarries or dies, her 300 pounds will be divided amongst the 3 youngest sons William, Thomas and Jacob when they reach the age of 21. If any of them die before this their share will be divided between the two survivors.

Thomas states that on the 2nd or 3rd May 1773 he purchased "to me and my heirs for ever that messuage or tenement and dwelling house commonly called or known by the name of ?dorirho with the barn, stable, ?barkoide Carton Garden Orchard Kirk Barton and other appurtanaces thereto belonging and all those six closes of arable pasture thereunto belonging containing in the whole by estimation fifty acres (more or less) theretofore inclosed out of the common fields of Bushton aforesaid with the appurtanances those to belonging (which premises were held by my late deceased brother Roger Spackman) ..."

He says his brother Roger left him the property on condition that he paid an allowance to his other brothers William and Jacob and also to his kinsman another Roger, and to his widowed sister in law Ann (Roger's widow), and he makes provision for this. He leaves all this property to his eldest son, Roger, instructing that he continues the allowances.

Thomas leaves his daughter Mary one shilling, saying he has already provided well for her. Everything else is left to his wife Elizabeth, whom he appoints as executrix.

Until very recently the educational and other charities endowed by Thomas Spackman (presumably the same as this) were still in operation.  Unfortunately this Thomas is not the Thomas whose will appears above but, still, it's interesting!
