NOTES:
From the notes of Nancy Norwood Cox and Mary Ann Norwood Ongman:
Henrietta A Vaden Gleason moved to California around 1882 (Her son, Peter, indicated that Henrietta had lived in California for 32 years. The reason for moving to California is unknown.
----
Henrietta is listed in the household of her father, Delaney Dodson (D D) Vaden in the 1850 census of Gibson County, Tennessee.
----
Henrietta is listed in the household of J E Gleason in the 1860 census of Gibson County, Tennessee. Listed with them is a son of one month named Patrick.
----
In the 1900 US Census of Highland, San Bernardino, California, Henrietta has a granddaughter, Pearl, and a hired hand living in her house.
----
In the 1910 US Census of Highland, San Bernardino, California, Henrietta is living in the house of Pearl, her husband (Alfred E Norwood), and Pearl's son. Henrietta is listed as giving birth to four children, two of which were still living. She is listed as being born in Tennessee and her parents born in Virginia.
----
In the 1870 US Census of Friendship, Dyer County, Tennessee there is a household of one Robt J Davis with wife named Harriett (30). Listed among the children is a Henry Glason (13) and a May Glason (10). There is speculation that Harriett is Henrietta, Henry is Peter/Patrick Henry, and May would be one of the two children that died before the 1910 census. The age of Henry does not match Peter Henry's age (he would have been 10 in 1870). More research is needed.
----
In the 1880 US Census of Friendship, Crockett County, Tennessee there is a household of R J Davis with wife A H (40), daughter T F (17), infant daughter 2/12 (born May), step-son P H Gleason (m,20), and step-daughter A L Gleason (f,18). Speculation suggest that this would be Henrietta A Vaden Gleason, Patrick Henry Gleason, and one A L Gleason (unknown daughter). Again, as mentioned above, in the 1910 census, Henrietta listed giving birth to four children with two living. It is possible that A L (along with May above) would be the two children who died early. The infant child would be Bertie Gleason who was born in May 1880. The finding of this census record raised the possibility that R J and A H Davis is the Robt J and Harriett in the 1870 record and that the Gleason children would be the Glason children. Please note that Crockett County, Tennessee was formed between 1870 and 1880 from several counties. Friendship was part the area taken from Dyer County to become Crockett County.
Administrator's Notes:
A H being Henrietta raises a few questions in my mind.
1. A H's parents are listed as being born in Tennessee, whereas Henrietta's parents are both born in Virginia.
2. Based on information that has been passed to me, Henrietta and Bertie always went by Gleason, not Davis. Seems to me that if this is indeed Henrietta, then R J and Henrietta never married and Bertie took her mother's name or something happened to cause Henrietta to take up the Gleason name again.
3. If this is Henrietta, then the infant (Bertie) was the daughter of R J. The census indicates that both T F Davis and the infants father were born in Pennsylvania.
Further research needed here.
