It is unknown where D D was at the time of the 1830 Census was taken. He was not in the counties of Dyer or Gibson. He was not found in the 1830 census of Chesterfield County, VA either. Charlie Vines

Information that I have received concerning Mary Jane Vaden and Samuel Hall Jones states that Mary Jane was born in Dyer County in 1834.

D D is listed in the 1840 US Census of Gibson County, TN The breakdown of the household is listed below.

Males 100101 - 32011
      to 5, (1) Henry C (b. 1839)
      5-10,
      10-15,
      15-20, (1) Richard (b. abt 1824)
      20-30,
      30-40, (1) D D (b. abt 1801)
      40-50,
      50-60,
      60-70,
      70-80,
      80-90,
      90-100

Females
to 5, (3) Mary Jane (b. 1834), Hannah (b. 1837) , Henrietta (b. 1839)
5-10, (2) See Note below.
10-15,
15-20, (1) Martha (b. 1825)

60-70,
70-80,
80-90,
90-100

NOTE: The census image for the 5-10 and 10-15 groups is apparently wrong. The 2 girls between 5 and 10 is Elizabeth Ann (born November 20, 1826) and Dorothy Francis (born August 05, 1828). They would be 13 and 11, respectively. It would seem that the proper category for these girls would be 10-15 rather than 5-10.

In January of 1999, I received a e-mail from Ron Williams of Memphis, TN stating that he had found a document in the Gibson county court house in Trenton, TN. This document reveals that Alexander Mobley (who married Dorothy Francis Vaden (an older daughter of D D's)) was given custody to several of D D's minor children. The document was sealed October 4, 1858. Lt Robert is Robert Wylie Vaden.

The document is listed below.

Alex Mobley

Bledsoe of the county of Gibson and state of Tennessee are held and firmly bound unto the state of Tennessee in the sum of one thousand dollars in trust for the use of the minor children herein after mentioned for payment of which will be made we ourselves our executors and administrators sealed with our seals and dated 4th Oct 1858. Examined and approved.

Alex Mobley (seal)
Zachariah Mobley (seal)

Josiah listed above would be Joseph in the 1850 Gibson Co, TN Census. He is also listed as Jack in the 1860 Gibson Co, TN census where he is living with the A Worth family (HN 432, FN 444) family.

Ron Williams also send me an e-mail stating that D. D. was a Trustee at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in the Edison Community.

According to Betty Tucker, D. D. may have had two sons younger to Robert. They are Roe and Dick. They are not listed in D. D.'s will or in the custodial documents dealing with D. D.'s minor children after his death. However, Dick is a common nickname for Richard (D D's eldest). I do not know what Roe could mean. Charlie

Mickey had to have her fathers consent to be married. The marriage / marriage bond was witnessed by Daniel Dunnavant. The marriage ceremony was performed on Dec 24, 1822 by Edmund Goode. The Marriage bond was dated Dec 23, 1822. (Marriage Bonds & Ministers Returns of Chesterfield Co., VA 1816 - 1853)

Ceremony for D D Vaden and Polly Davis was performed by G. M. Sharp, J.P, L. B. Gilchrist, BM
